I'm continually impressed by Alonso. He was holding that bag of bolts in 7th place (like an animal!).

Obviously Max did well, but the Red Bull is a class ahead of the cars he was around. When you see how easily Bottas was coming back through you realise. And Max was helped hugely by the safety car.

Vettel did a great job coming back. It's so good to see real close racing and good overtakes, although again, Vettels car was a class ahead of those he was overtaking (Kimi was clearly struggling with modes and tyres).

Verstappen: 16th to 3rd, passes his teammate in a good move.

Vettel: unlucky to lose almost 25 seconds from the free pit stop the rest got, good moves though and 42 secs ahead of Kimi by the end? Wow, Kimi should be embarrassed about that.

Sainz Jr: well he got lucky the feed quickly cut away as he was bashing into the wall when trying to rejoin the circuit. That was ridiculous, but hilarious. But after that he did very well.

Alonso shouldn't be too disappointed, he was running 7th, that's best of the rest after the top 3.

Clearly Max deserves this. It must have been extremely difficult to prevent Daniel from passing him at the end with a constant stream of tears flowing and clouding his vision as he cried about Charlie not telling Romain to move out of the way.

Richard

LOL, although we can have our thoughts on the way it was delivered, he does have a point.

With the dirty air problem extending 0.5-1s this year, we probably see more of these situations this year where a to be lapped car is outside the 1s blue flag distance but is within the range of severely influencing the pace of the front runners. When the speed difference is small effectively you won't get passed and get stuck. If this happens earlier in the race your race results can get severely jeopardized.

OTOH I do feel every one is entitled to their own race and increasing the blue flag distance to 2s would be overly harsh.

Perhaps we have to accept that for this year, like the more difficult overtaking, this is a result of the ill conceived rules changes for 2017.

It's funny how drivers tend to get a bit flustered when the blue flags aren't waved for them(I remembering back a few years to Austin 2012 and the Vettel versus Hamilton battle - when Vettel wanted them)?

Some impressive drives today :-

Alonso : for driving that piece of garbage that is the McLaren up to 7th. We know that he is quite good in wet conditions, but he took a car that didn't belong there to that position.

Sainz Jr. : took a brace decision to start on slicks and slightly messed up at the beginning of the race. However, he sort of came alive towards the middle and end stints.

Vettel : made a poor start and wasn't helped by the bad timing of the pitstop but, he managed two non-DRS passes and not only beat his teammate but finished back up in second to still tie for the WDC.

Max : this young guy has some talent. Starting from so low down the grid. Clearly, like Hamilton, Vettel and Alonso he is very good in the wet. Good overtakes(especially on Kimi and Danny). Possibly he could have taken second, if the team had pitted him earlier than Vettel? A really strong drive.

Hamilton : Took pole, lead every lap and won the race. He done the "Triple" and one of eight drivers in F1 to do it. What more could you want? A flawless performance from him this weekend. That's why I gave him DOTOR.

I don't think he could've taken second. The pace difference is just too big in the dry. That said Red Bull couldn't have wishes for a better result. They are sitting out the current races till they become seriously more competitive from Canada onwards and then to loose so little points to both Mercedes and Ferrari is really more than they could've asked for.

Has to be GIO. No other driver in recent history managed to make so many friends in one weekend! Ocon, Palmer and Grosjean during Q1 and I suspect that after today's performance Vettel doesn't have him too high on his Christmas card list either.
(PS: I voted Verstappen)

Carlos Sainz.
* Could stay with the Ferrari's for a very long time.
* Best of the rest
* The only one who made the correct tire choice. The others were lucky they got a semi-free (VSC) or free (SC) pitstop.

Verstappen sounded like Vettel version 2016 today.

For me, Max' first lap and Vettel's back to back moves from P5 to P3 were equally impressive (Perez on Massa was an absolute beauty too)

I also feel that it was def one of the harder fought hat-trick Victories from Hamilton, in variable conditions, in a car, that for the first time in 3 years , does seem to have a match (altough its still safe to say that Mercedes is the best of the grid, it is far from dominant)

A totally wel deserved podium from all 3 guys, let me just vote Magnussen, who put in a decent drive finally.

Im sort of getting tired of this Alonso hype lately.

Sure he is doing a more than decent job, but driving an underpowered aerodynamical masterpiece like this Mclaren is really not something only one man in this Universe could possibly do so right. Vettel won from pole in an underpowered car, and allow me to think that the aero package of that STR was probably not in the same leauge than what the second oldest, second most successful and second most well-funded team put under Alonso.

Equally tiring to the hype, are his string of less than modest interviews. Its almost like he feels, he needs to tell us everytime he gets out of the car, that me huge hero, car big fat zero...

I really hope that all this self-marketing will land him a Mercedes seat, only to get his ass handed to him by Hamilton (again), as the final accord of this absolute whine-concert of a career....that would be totally fitting

Just one question, what evidence do you have to suggest the McLaren is an aero-dynamical masterpiece?

Due to good aero, or lack of?

Have Honda got confused with which championship they've entered...
