Interesting experience...
I mentioned in another post that I attended the adventure sports show on the weekend. While shooting the vert ramp action, 3 mentally disabled late-teenage lads decided to play the game "stand in front of bloke taking photos". Naturally, I thought they'd failed to notice me peering through a huge black light bucket atop a hefty tripod so I moved to the side and was rewarded instantly by a white baseball cap in the viewfinder. Moving again, I was rewarded once again. Oh Joy! Moving about 20 feet, guess what happened : "yes, my vacuous friends, this is a much better view" as a white hat hove into view. I merely ignored them for a few minutes upon which they gave up their sad little actions and ****ed off.
Later on, another group did the same and it took some very lax payment of attention to them on my part to make them give up. I just wonder if I can expect ignorance like that quite often near crowds and whether you have experienced what can only be interpreted as some kind of mis-placed envy. After all, anyone can pony up the dough for a 300 2.8, far fewer can use one with skill (and I'm not one of them). Having said that, a tribe of young badgers will pick their noses in front of you using broken and oozing earthworms if you give them the chance.... Yours bunching fingers into fist, Graham |

I must admit I've happily not had this experience, but then again, most of my photography has been confined to motorsports and particularly Le Mans over the last few years. I'm pleased to say that most spectators seem almost acutely aware of the amateur photographer even apologising when they accidentally get in the way.
The one thing that usually annoys me is the pros. There are often very few decent spots for the amatuer with no media pass to take pictures these days and when you finally find somewhere vaguely OK, what happens? One of the pros ambles along and decides to set up his monopod and camera with a lens three foot long and two feet wide right in your viewfinder..... I know the guys have a job to do, but they can pick and choose where they go......... |
