McRae again

McRae is serious, anything to raise the profile of LM is good IMHO

I think you may find that the pic is of Ari Vatenen, but it could be Mccrash.

It was definately Vatanen who hit the tree!

http://www.eurosport.com/home/pages/...to532952.shtml

I really hope he does put together a deal to race at Le Mans, I think he's an outstanding driver, I think his results in the Dakar have proved that he's got what it takes to finish an endurance event.

The picture on sniff petrol was a fake, made up in the expectation that McRae not Vatanen would find one of the few trees in a desert.

I agree about his showing on the dakar, great drive.

I hear that Enge is going to race a Skoda in his national rally championship . Petter Solberg is giving him Tarmac coaching . All three have links with Prodrive . Just a cool idea to have a Care Racing Ferrari 550 with McCrea-Solberg-Enge . That would draw some attention !!!

Many rally drivers did Le Mans : Bernard Darniche (Rondeau), Jean-Claude Andruet (Ferrari 512BB), Walter Rohrl (Porsche 911 T LM 1993) and some others certainly.

According to press reports, Colin is negotiating a deal with Fredric Dor, the French oil tanker magnet.
This would be to drive a Ferrari 550 for CARE Racing I beleive, not just at Le Mans but also may be at other rounds in which ever championship, as Colin has said he wants drive at the top level and not just turn up and have a go.

And what is a "French oil tanker magnet"?????

Is it something that attracts large ships

I'm not convinced. Just because Mcrae can drive rally cars doesn't mean he'll translate to Sportscars easily. I agree it is great to have big names being attracted to LM, but i think CM's performance will be largely a learning experience and if he finishes(!) highly then it'll be as much down to the competitiveness of his car and his team-mates input as his own ability.

We shall have to watch his laps times relative to his team mates. I for one will be very interested in them.

He was only a second or so of Brundles pace in a Jordan F1 test a few years back.

Also Carlos Sainz tested the Toyota GT-ONE and, I belive, was only a few tenths slower than Brundle on that occasion.

They are undoubtedly very good drivers, but are used to driving flat out without having to worry about other drivers alongside them and only (usually) for short periods of time. It will be interesting to see how he copes.

Me too - it'll be interesting to see how his lap times compare throughout the race as i believe that any driver worth his salt can put together a single lap time in testing or qualifying etc.

Does this reflect on Brundle, the ease of the car to drive flat out, or the quality of the rally boys? I think we have to be carefull in building these guys up to be demi-gods when they are somewhat unproven in this sort of field.

He did quite well in ASCAR when he had a go at that did'nt he?

He also held his own in the BTCC when he had a go at Knockhill one year, although his car shall we say was slightly second hand after the race!

I think he will do a good job.
