Vasser
I seem to remember hearing that Jimmy Vasser would be running at indy with Rahal. Is this true? It was a while ago that i heard it so i might just be outdated info. (I really hope its not true since it would be nice to see a short field at indy ) (and a non-sellout ) (and low tv ratings )

Since he's going to NA$CAR next year, its obvious he doesn't have any shame.

Did I miss something? Is Jimmy leaving CART next year for NASCAR? Or is he planning to straddle both at the same time?

He's hoping to become the first NASCAR Busch Series driver to win the 500

Honestly, I don't have a big problem with a CART driver branching out. But Vasser's not exactly setting the world on fire here, is he? (Fontana aside)

Jiommy will be trying to qulify for the 500 on Bump Day, which is never a sure thing even if you're a superstar, jsut ask Bobby himself, who DNQ'd in 1993 as the reigning CART champion. Assuming he makes it, it's quite posisble that he will take on the IRL regulars for the win.
He is of course doing a partial Busch schedule this year, possibly pre-empting a fulltime switch to stock cars. I guess it depends on how well ASTJ goes. Currently it looks like something of a cowboy operation, disorganised and prone to technical maladies, and is dragging Jimmy and Ryan down. |

Vasser indeed starts from position 27 / row 9... and with all the ex-CART-drivers in front... not easy :gruebel:
Very interesting to take a look of the Indy 500 starting lineup: The first Chevrolet at row 6 with Sam Hornish as 18th! Possible we will see Chevrolet on board with CART in 2004...? ASTJ...? I wonder who is paying the bill? No sponsor!? And the team and drivers – not only Vasser, yes, they are not setting the world on fire... it looks like CART is paying Vasser – and ”hello America", wake up, what's up, it's hard to believe, that a real american driver like Vasser can't find a sponsorship...!!! |

Jimmy has said he is not leaaving ChampCars. he is going to straddle both circuits best he can- he had said something about it on speedchannel, how he wanted to keep a door open as he gets older. he'll still be a champ car racer, even if he is mister 8th place, He starts 8th he finishes 8th, with the occasional win aside Jimmy can't seem to get higher consistantly is his fire dying?

Well, the Johannsen team seems pretty pathetic from the outside perspective, though Jimmy's road & street course performance has really been falling off the past couple seasons.
Oh well, best of luck to him, I suppose. I honestly can't begrudge anyone for running in two championships, even if one happens to be NASCAR. Cripes, the purses they pay are insane, it might be the only way some of our young road racing talent to get the funding they need (to do some NASCAR one-offs). |

I kinda wish he wasn't there, because 32 cars woulda been funny, but I'm rooting for Vasser to win the TG500 more than any other driver in recent memory. What a coup! CART's been there for four years, and won 'em all! No secret that he's got the team, the money, the pitcrew, and the talent on the big ovals.

If the team gives Jimmy a decent car on race day, he'll finish in the top 10 at Indy.
