The only reason that GP2 didnt lose anyone was because there was nowhere else to go in Europe after F3. Furthermore, GP2 is showcased in many venues alongside F1. thats a pulling point in and of itself.

as to your point about confident drivers going to the F3 series which asks for less money... I think your view here is clearly somewhat misguided. F3 euroseries in the most expensive of them all. Yet it had packed grids and more talent in 2004 and 2005.

There was Renault WS but GP2 was more sexy for most drivers despite their reverse grids. In other words there are more important things in the mind of talented drivers looking for a way into F1 than the purity of the sport.

... because drivers were either placed in this championship by their sponsors (Mercedes, Red Bull, Toyota, RDD and so on) or given cheap rides. Do you think that will change with reverse grids?
