Montreal practice 1.1 and 1.2
De La Rosa quickest in Practice 1.1, from Zonta, Raikkonen and Button.

Wonder if the BARs may be light? They do seem quick again, Button only being a tenth of a second off Kimi.

Alonso didn't run in the first session, the only driver not to set a time.

I expected Schu to be quicker considering the cooler temperatures.... but as all 1st prac session it was very inconclusive as to who is quick and who is not....

The Ferrari's seem pretty strong up to now, with MS 5th, but only 4 tenths down overall, and only 2 tenths behind Raikkonen.

Ferrari always tend to run better in the "green track conditions" of 1.1 than they do in later sessions and qualifying

If it's going to rain in the race, Schumacher has a good change of winning the race.

He has a good chance if it's dry as well, I feel. Canada won't really highlight Ferraris weaknesses so badly. It's all about brakes and top end speed ultimately, although you'd still ideally want to be on Michelins.

The closest style of track to Montreal is Imola, and remember how well Michael went there.

McLaren must have decided to see what they can achieve on lower fuel levels.

Hmm, doesn't seem like they'll do anything much below 1:15 at the moment does it?

Judging by the times from 2nd practise www.crash.net some teams have definitely got work to do.

Ferrari,RedBull and Williams are way off the pace.Still it's only Friday, but i bet all three are more than a little worried.
Can't help but think that Ferrari has a car problem that is compounded (sorry) by its tyres. It seems like when the car has perfect tyres it is blisteringly (sorry) fast, but when the tyres aren't spot on it is positively ordinary. |

Yep. Red Bull, Ferrari, and Williams are looking like they in need of doing some serious work on their cars. I was surprised how little running michael did, do we know of any problem he might be suffering from?
edit: You beat me to it Martyn! |

SPEED Red Bull 1m19.270s I'm shocked to see the Ferrari's so far down. This is a track in which they tend to go well in, even in 03, when Ferrari had similar car-tyre compound problems. Michael is less than a second faster than the fastest Minardi. |

Maybe Ferrari have been going at less than full throttle on the long straights to preserve engines.

Maybe Ferrari is looking at a one stop / heavy fuel strategy and they are testing on heavier fuel loads. What else can they do when they can't get their tyres up to temp for qualifying with the 1 shot qualifying system?
