They will require additional investment straight away if they want to be on the grid for next year.

Because right now they are battling to secure 3% of the £8mil budget by November.

I got a Paypal error too, so I had to actually go and find my wallet.

It'll be interesting to see how much of the whole project they can fund by small crowdfunded donations and how much by traditional sponsorship and pay drivers.

At least it builds a connection between the team and spectators which can only be a good thing.

Would be interesting to know what they will share.

The engineer Access sound interesting, but it is more expensive than Perrin subscription and i doubt they will share a similar amount of info, considering that they will buy a car from someone else and this someone else would probably not want to publish any data....

On the other hand, if they succeed, it could be interesting to have info and data about a real car.

Wow, £8 million budget for a single P2 program in WEC? Isn't that a bit much?

Wonder how much a similar program in the ELMS is? Am I right in believing Tudor is (almost) as expensive as WEC (because of the longer races)?

Running a 2 car LMP2 team in WEC is £2.5-4 million NOT including obtaining the cars

Tudor is MORE expensive than WEC - more running time - I'm told c.10% more expensive

ELMS much cheaper but Le Mans comes in at a fair chunk too

i put the figures that philippe sinault gave recently in the elms thread - he's looking for a total budget of just over €2m for elms including le mans in lmp2. his budget for wec is €3.5million, which would fit with graham's figures though irritatingly there's no mention of how many cars that's for.

So that season budget - plus a car(s), spares, factory and staff. I suppose that's where your £8mill comes from.

It's massively ambitious.

Thx guys, that helps understanding the matter a bit better.

Graham, did David say anything about the number of cars his project is planning to enter (or maybe it's in the press release)? If so, I missed that one completely.

What happens if you donate and this thing falls apart.

As an amateur Driver/"Engineer," I really want to get in on the early bird but I'm very apprehensive about getting an actual product in return. I also was really hoping this would be a combined effort with Perrinn.

As with any investment there is an element of risk.

There are a lot of crowd funding projects though, where you pledge and if the funding is met then your money is invested and if not then you get it back.

This particular instance is not like that. In this case, you give your money and that's that. If they don't make it to their goals, they keep the money anyway. Which doesn't seem right to me, but that's the way it is.

This isn't an 'investment', in the traditional sense. The only thing you're investing in is hopefully supporting an extra car being on the grid that you can feel part of. This is a donation to a potential racing team that might not happen.

Just to make it clear, I have given a little money and hope it comes to fruition, but I'm not expectant and I don't want anybody to be under the false belief that they will get anything back from this or that it is guaranteed to happen.

Yeah and it's not like "Early Access" games over at Steam or wherever where you purchase the product still-in-development. As in this crowdfunding/kickstarter-scheme there is a risk involved as the final product may never see daylight, but at least you are able to play working game in it's alpha or beta or whatever development stage... not just see some initial project plans and rendering sheets

With this you're not quaranteed of anything

I thought the way these crowdfunding things work is they don't take your money until the end date, providing the goal has been reached?

Either way I threw £25 at it - if it happens I'll gladly follow their progress in the detail they say they'll provide. If not... well, I haven't really lost out very much. Not so sure the one person so far who pledged £10,000 will agree with that though!

depends. In the case of Brabham @ Indiegogo, they've specifically set it up so they'll get the money, no matter what.
