As a wise photographer, you know you've better take a picture from an Alfa during its first lap. At the second one, the gearbox lost its teeth, at the third the head gasket leaks and few moment later the rust is showing through the paint! Is it right, Richard?

Ever thought of a job on Top Gear? They like to recycle myths about Alfa unreliability


In the years we've raced the 75, its broken down (ie caused us to retire) just twice - and both times were the clutch - the second one being the first outing after the first breakdown, when the newly installed clutch failed (effectively completely disintegrated) within 20 miles.


The Porsche 944 we ran previously broke down more - DME relay, gear linkage, severe misfire.........

Never an Alfa let me down. When we did the 24 Hours of Spa in '76, after the race the body of our Grp1 GTV was so much damaged that it went direct to the scrapyard. But the engine did happily at least two seasons of ch de France. Very good engine surely because we had Dell'Ortos and not Webers.

No issue either with my '44 T pumping out 320hp and more. And the gear linkage requires as much care as an Alfetta's or 75, or any transaxle in fact. If you want to experience a trouble some gear linkage, just drive a 914…

Or maybe an Aston DB 2? Five speed box,apparently third to fourth can be a problem,which it was at Silverstone classic one year,lined for a class win,just before the flag.It would not go into fourth,second place it is then.😀
