Norm Beechey Monaro
This one might be of more interest to Australian and New Zealand racing enthusiasts. This is Norm Beechey in his Monaro at Lakeside 1970, with Allan Moffat following. This is oil on canvas. I usually paint in b/w. Cheers

Thank you, much appreciated. Its the first in a series, all available as limited edition prints. I've been wanting to do this series for a while, but commissions and other work get in the way. Just finishing the next one, of Moffats Mustang. Cheers.

Really beautiful work. Had a look at your website too, and all of those (Stirling Moss "The Rainmaster" in particular) are wonderful as well.
Are you planning any paintings of the Tasman cars from the late '60s? I would be a willing customer of a print of the Ferrari 246 Tasman, one of my favourite ever race cars. |

Thanks for your great feedback everyone. Much appreciated. I'm a motoring writer as well, and as I write to deadlines, and the paintings don't usually have deadlines, they kind of get done when I get the time. I love painting in b/w, as it allows for the shape of the car to really come out, and the way the light etc falls on it. Problem is though, you have to be careful not to have too much detail in the background, as it can overwhelm your subject.
I'd love to do a Tasman Ferrari at some point. My passion is old sixties racing saloon cars, but when painting, I prefer old open wheelers, with the wheels all askew, and the driver almost climbing out of the cockpit hustling his/her machine through the bends. I'll get round to that Ferrari eventually. Thanks again. |
