How's everyone getting on with Bert? We had a wild old time racing in the Costa del Dorset yesterday, and an exciting ride home.

According to local FB groups there's trees down blocking two main roads around Bromham just now. But for the time being our fences are up and the forecast says just six hours to go!

I spoke too soon! Now it's daylight, I can see two posts are broken - or at least the current Mrs MM "gently" pointed them out to me.

We'll be joining the lists of people metaphorically banging on the doors of the fencing contractors, I'm sure. I'm not Mr DIY when it comes to crises like this. As again she often points out to me

Five hours to go......

Well so far, so good. The cover has blown off one of the Jaguars but no harm done there. A long dead tree which became a minor talking point has gone for firewood. The cafe at the gym was jammed with mums and kids either preparing to go swimming or having been swimming, ordering lattes with cream and marshmallows so I came home. Mind you it seems the wind is picking up even more now.

Weird weather up here on the top of the world. Had a huge dump of snow overnight on Friday which slowly turned to fairly torrential rain during yesterday and that cleared all the snow from the last week away. Was expecting it to be really windy up here, but it's no worse than the breeze that we have in the summer; and the temperature has gone up nearly 15 degrees C with just a light drizzle now and again.

What about those tales of racing days gone by that you promised us while holed up in The North?

Quite a strange weekend here in the Lakes. Cold and windy on Saturday morning but no snow, then by dog waling time at 10pm is was balmy. Today has been warm for November is a little breezy.

Sure was a crazy drive home yesterday . M6 down to M40 was not to bad apart from traffic but as soon as we hit the M40 conditions were awful. I was very happy to get home in one piece . Glad I was in the wife’s Kia and not Gilbert . I do hope all my tenther mates are safe and well .

Sounds like I was in the Lake District the same time as you Iain. We were in Patterdale. Forecast for early in the week was for heavy snow, so we took the Panda 4x4 (hoping for a bit of a play in the snow) leaving the main car at home. Never seen the Panda so full with 2 of us, various bags & kit and Mrs C's wheelchair. And of course - not a drop of snow until we got home!

All this Lake District talk is making me really envious. I spent most of my childhood holiday time in a caravan we had on the shores of Lake Windermere (an old seaplane assembly base halfway between Windermere and Ambleside). In later years me and Mrs MG have spent many happy weekends up in the Keswick area but we haven't made it up there this year.

That will be White Cross Bay?
We are right in the north of the National Park. Indeed our motor Club HQ (Motor House) is just inside the LDNPA boundary by about 200 metres.

Next time I go we need to have a tenths get together. What are your thoughts on Blue Bird running again. They say this will happen in 2026. I'm not so sure.Mind you I would love to be there if it does happen.

It is. Being a flyingboat base it was all concrete which was good when it rained (it always rains in the lake district!) as it wasn't a grass site to get muddy but the water pooled on the concrete and only drained away slowly.

Last time I went passed that way probably 5 or 6 years ago there was still a caravan site there but it looked like it was owned by some holiday park company. When I went there in the 1950s/1960s it was privately owned. I remember once when I was 16/17 I cycled up there on my own which took about 9 hours. After being joined by a couple of mates we all cycled back together a few days later and it only took about 7.5 hours. Probably a mix of us pacing each other and a westerly tail wind helped.

It will certainly run again. They have tow engines and have just announced who will pilot her.
There is a huge level of support here in the Lakes from a heritage, emotional and economic level. Having Bluebird back in Coniston has seem a huge increase in the numbers of visitors to the Ruskin Museum where she is kept with few people going there to see the Victorian polymath and all heading to the new wing with the Campbell display. There is even a new car park in the village.

My wife and I went a couple of years back - me to see the Bluebird bit and she for Ruskin but we both enjoyed both parts. Certainly worth a visit for both aspects.

I went for what was supposed to be a week's holiday with my wife, one of the twins and his French exchange student, all just before I announced that I was divorcing my wife. What was a miserable time was made even worse because the moment we arrived it started raining, and then continued to be wet right up until the moment that I started the car to leave on the way back south to Hertfordshire.

Hadn't anyone explained to you that there is a reason its called the Lake District? Still has some of the most beautiful areas in the country, mind!

I've been once invited by Audi AG to a whiskey tasting in the south of Scotland. I remember it from certain lakes but I have the impression that this water can cause serious headaches tho… Do those liquors flow through a pipeline I dunno.

There's a saying up there that if you can't see the tops of the mountains .............. it's raining. And if you can ......... it's about to.
