Toyota have been running a car in the Japanese Super Taikyu series for a number of years. Using a Yaris 1.6 GR engine in a Corolla.

A manufacturer will have indicated it would join if provision was included in future regs then. Or quite possibly Toyota's continued presence.

This would make perfect sense if allowing hydrogen was how Toyota kept investing in the series.

Except for:

Fuel Cell - Toyota Mirai, Hyundai Nexo, Honda CR-V.

A lot of manufacturers are also working on HICE models.

Think we won't know until the TBLs are out in the next couple of weeks exactly what's going on with One. Does feel like the most obvious move for Cook though.

Yes. Fuel Cell or Internal Combustion.

I guess Toyota don't know what they're doing then?

It is already a proven option in the Super Taikyu Series - and LPG has already been in use for ICE cars for many years.
