I think that 30% is very good, considering they almost doubled the capacity of the supercapacitor and added the front MGU (and its driveshafts).

I think the front wheel cut out is mandatory to be in front of the front axle

The weight of the supercap was something around 80kg. Im guessing weight increase is mostly from the additional electric motor rather than the capacitor. Since he was specifying the whole system.

On RIM last night it stated that they have only added the front mgu. They haven't added another supercap.

No, I mean from increased storage capacity (if any) the weight of that may have increased. Not suggesting two capacitors, thatd be too heavy surely.

Sorry worded that badly in hindsight. I was fully agreeing with you that the 30% increase is from the additional mgu.
Just clarifying for that the haven't added another supercap.

Seems like the #8 high downforce or sprint package was the faster car today.

Are available somewhere pics of the "saturday" #8? because that 322km/h of top speed doesn't fit a lot the HD package used friday...
http://www.endurance-info.com/fr/pho...ais/?nggpage=4
Indeed was clearly using the low drag package.

The #8 in HD was a lot slower compared to audi, for silverston I expect both audi fighting for the win.

The horizontal thing looks more like the steering arm to me.

Im using a phone right now so I had to zoom in. The dark area behind the steering arm above the brake inlets is what caught my eye, but just looks like a suspension piece. I thought it may have been connected to the motor, but its too high up.

umm... not conclusive, but it seems the brake disks themselves are kind of small and very poorly "air" cooled if at all... perhaps no need...

Also the "mechanic" is in front... but there doesn't seem to be there a reasonable big Front Differential between the 2 half axles... so perhaps the front electric motor is relatively very small... unless its electric motors and are "inside the wheels hubs themselves" ( which BTW are much bigger than normal), axial flux kind of electric motors comes to mind (HUGE huge torque!)...

But doesn't the rules mandate only 1 motor per ERS ? ... yet there could be a central electric motor( small) in a central position at front, plus 2 generators ( of the axial kind), one inside each front wheel hub... I don't think the rules mandates both processes *motor and generator* must be integrated in a single unit, only a single motor for each ERS, that is, a single inverter + control, since is this what is regulated and monitored, and "generation" ( recuperative braking regeneration) can be "separated" and kind of free!...

Right, not allowed two motors on one axel (sadly). This was what the Supra HVR used in 2007. Toyotas motors are small. Their suppliers (or owned ompanies rather) have been making hybrid components for a long time. They must be good at it by now after a decade+ of hybrid cars.

Maybe I've never worked on an LMP1 before (unless an Avalon counts) but it looks to me that whatever source feeds the red flex tubes is directly fed to the entire disc with no waste. As for the rotors being small, aren't the wheels smaller in diameter? That would warrant a smaller brake package. If I was trying to save weight I also wouldn't fit anything bigger than what's needed to stop the car. It seems they have found an adequate solution.

Wheels are still 18" diameter, rim width is narrower by about an inch in a half.

Brake rotors are allowed to be 15" diameter. They look small because of all the cooling/ducting crap that they're shrouded in now.
