Peter: "Car"
Others: Yer gets what yer pays for! Price of gloves these days is cheaper than it was when I started in the business. They're all made in the Far East and quality suffers. You can buy two pairs of gloves for the price of the UK ones I used to deal in, so another business closes. We as consumers all share the blame...... |

Sparco gets stuff made same place as I do - Pakistan. They use the same companies, too. In fact I've just bought a load of cheap un-branded karting gloves dead ringers for the Sparco ones.
Don't get sucked in by "Italian" quality. Their cheaper suits are made in the same place or South Africa, cost 3 grains of rice each. For Nike read Sparco or OMP. We're all into exploitation - it's what the end-user wants. Yes, I'm MGCC. Been hillclimbing Montego Turbo for past few years but moved back into racing (after 10-yr gap) at Silverstone. Saw you knuckle-rapping on another thread when someone advertised their web site so I'll shut up! |

PM it it to me.
And I'm not a mod (anymore) so I don't do rapped knuckles. I do however do serious wind ups so be careful. Anyway, why not tell us about your racing exploits too. Also your car would qualify for the BSSC race at Spa in September. (That translates as (Barry Siddery Smith Cars) or British sports and Saloon Cars. Take your pick. |

MG Midget hence the nickname. I'll update my profile and you can catch me off-board and to swap notes about FWD MG saloons!

You might want to try RG Racewear, a quick search on Google will give you the details. They are very much into karting!!

Its steep learning curves are us here . . . .the only advice I've had thus far is 2 layers is more comfy than 3, but get good underwear, and wear a full face helmet because I cant afford the dentistry! If I have a nudge that is

Its really how good you feel. I had a two layer and now I use a three layer and of the two, the three layer is the most comfortable but that may be due to that nice conditioner in the washing machine!
I also wear f/p underwear and a good f/p balaclava. The helmet is something you need to try on because you may feel claustrophobic in a full face and therefore teeth or not an open face will be better. If going for a full face, get something like the Simpson LXP or the OMP Grantourismo because they are designed with a wider eye slot than a single seater helmet. Although a lot of touring car racers do wear s/s helmets. You may recall a picture of the two (IMO) most popular types of touring car helmet on my website. |

I think Id go for an open face, from bike/scooter road experience, you can see out the sides!
the advice Ive had thus far has been the same POeter . . .if your not comfortable, you wont concentrate on the driving. swimming trunks and flip flops it is then |

I'd never wear an open face helmet even in a saloon. In an accident there's so much sh*t and debris flying around, you don't know where it's going to end up. There was a guy on TV in an Aussie V8 race who had glass in his eye when his screen was smashed. Visor down, that won't happen.

I know that some drivers who wear full face helmets with a visor keep the visor open a short way.

I'll back up the comment about the damage that can be done when a windscreen is hit. I was doing around 160 at PI on the mainstraight, when I hit a seagull. It hit right in front of me on the widscreen, hard enough to make the interior glass detach from the laminates, and showered me with fine glass. My racesuit and helmet where ruined, due to the glass embedded in them, and the chunks taken out of the helmet, But I didn't get anything in to my eyes, due to having a full face helmet, and the visor down.

They wont protect the rest of your face though, and from the damage done to my helmet, I would have hated to see what it would have done to bare skin.
