10-tenths story time

Its the off season, the silly season is slow so how bout this. Gonna try one of those stories where everybody can only add one sentence. Hey its something different...... Try to make it flow a little bit
The story begins........

It was Bathurst 2005, Jason Bargwanna had qualified on pole and the cars set off on the warm up lap.

And one of the early race favourites Greg Murphy in the PWR/Supercheap Commodore has crashed it on the warm up lap at Forrests Elbow.

All that could be heard on the car to pits radio was "How Good is this ?"

[Just Do It!]

And the safety car came out and picked up the wrong lead car.

[Rowdy]

Murph managed to limp the car back to the pits but will surely go down a few laps, all the crowd could here was the kiwi screaming "BLOODY MARCUS"

And he kept saying "Set it up for 2:06's, guys, because it's time for a comeback"

Finally the field managed to line up for the start of the race, red light comes on.

The WPS Safety Car sits on pole, almost on the rev limiter. Bargs is waving his arm out the window and his car has a cabin full of smoke, mainly coming out of Barg's ears.

Apparently Larko was overly excited about having pole and set off some fireworks prematurely in the cabin of #10.

The cameras turn to the #10 cars co-driver, a Mr P. Brock, who is making his last ever appearance at Bathurst in 2005.

Pete glances at the camera and in a kind of nochulant way says.

Meanwhile at the top of the mountain

and facing a tough decision, having recently discovered that beer is made of

The field came up to revs the red light flicked on then off and Bargs jammed the peddle forwards, trying to push it all the way into the SBR V8, but the smoke was endemic of more serious maladies and the field would sweep by him on the run up Mountain Straight. For the second year running in his retirement race Brock would not get a lap on raceday. 2006 would have to see another comback. I'm not retiring until I get win 10. Although 11 is a nice number...

Alongside Bargwanna, Skaife too had bogged down as had John Bowe in fourth spot while the only boomer of a start was Bathurst specialist Paul Dumbrell from third, who could scarely believe his luck running up the inside of Bargwanna, reaching Hell Corner first with Steven Johnson out of seventh, charging through the vacant fifth spot of Murphy's, following in Dumbrells wake and Marcos Ambrose taking to the grass on the other side of the straight jumped from sixth to third.

With three of the front four cars slow away, and a gap made by the fleeing third row and the Murphy 'space', the 'tunnel' of the narrow pit straight channelled cars like bullets in a hallway. All it needed was a single touch...

..but there was more than one touch. There were four, or five, or six touches. All of them by Craig Lowndes on the rear of Rick Kelly's 'Toys R Us' Commodore. Rick could be heard on the team's radio saying: " ..

Queensland racer Paul McCahon, alias the Wombat, steered the broken second Paul Morris Commodore back towards the pits joining Bargwanna in limp mode around the circuit.

Down in the pits the PWR team continued to tear away at the PWR Commodore, trying desperately to repair the car in case some points could be salvaged.

The leaders were now skipping across the top of the hill with Johnson putting real pressure on Dumbrell, with Ambrose keeping a watching brief while Lowndes continued to put hard pressure on Rick Kelly. Steven Richards and Jason Bright followed with Mark Skaife back up to speed with John Bowe hard on his hammer across McPhillamy.

The passed through the top corners without further incident and openned out onto Conrod Straight for the first time where those with the horspower could pick up position with a good exit out of Forrests, leading to...
