V8s at Homebush perhaps..... But I thought The Black wiggle would be the one to break the news.....
How will I sleep tonight?........ In this age of news and information overload such a press release tease like this wont keep me awake tonight... Later... |

Could this be it??
I was talking to a couple of people at the creek today and they're not confident of the redevelopment plans being approved. They also think Homebush may not go ahead either with the NSW Govt in so much debt. Personally I prefer the redevelopment of the creek over any street race. |

To utilise his skills in a technical writing capacity is a bonus for the organisation, a shame they have thought like this in the past. |

Yep, it's Rally Australia, to be held in the Tweed Heads area of NSW, The rally has the backing of Events NSW and must put a doubt over any plans for the V8 Race at Homebush.
Having gone with the Rally Oz story on last nights show I was a touch trepidatious about the announcement. Good to see the sources were reliable, for a change. The story here. Last edited by inpitlane; 10 Sep 2008 at 02:48. |

Expected to bring in $100 million over 10 years - sure sounds like someones playing with the.....with figures on this one.
Especially as it is alternating with NZ each year. Anyone read how much the Kiwi's reckon it is going to cost them errr I mean rake in over the same period? |

$100m over 10 years, that is only $20m a year (alternating with NZ)...I don't think that it is too much of a stretch - assuming that is just money bought into the economy, not profit.
A lot of people associated with the series and a lot of fans, particularly from Northern Europe do follow the event, plus all the Australian visitors that come to the event... Don't forget the TV coverage - that is also a big plus - WRC does go to a lot of countries and while the sport is in a bit of trouble a the moment, it still has a following... But interesting that they have gone to NSW after the original plan was Qld...guess the government $$$ was the clincher |

The West Australian Government did not think so. They did the sums and dropped the WRC rally and picked up the Australian Surf Life Saving Championship. I don't know what has changed for the rally. . |

TV coverage, fans, visitors. Would they seriously be bringing in $20m a round? Somehow I sriously doubt that it woul dbe anywhere near that figure.
If anything TV coverage would be paying the organisers (money OUT of the country); sanctioning/licence fees would more than likely be equivalent (at the least) to the teams costs while in the country - therefore most likely a balanced 'balance sheet' leaving fans/visitors only as the only viable revunue source. And fans contributing $20m? Maybe TC is branching out. |

Well, I'll be there! This is great news!
A bit unfortunate that it will be a tarmac rally, but it makes spectating easier I suppose. |

SMH is the only place that has mentioned tarmac. All the official reports mention gravel.

I think it is gravel and SMH got their wires crossed...the FIA don't want tarmac rallies much anymore and i would highly doubt they would have let the organisers plan one...
