Master Cylinders
Any reason why I shouldn't use Wilwood master cylinders at ~£30 each rather than Girling at ~£60 each?

anecdotally I've heard that Wilwood quality has dropped a lot in recent years,

I didn't realise Girling were that expensive, last ones I bought were £25-£30ish, pretty much the same as Wilwood. Do FF regs say you have to use Girling?

Try your local motor factors. Give them the part no. on the casting. I think we paid about £20 each for them a few years ago for the Swift we we running.
They were the proper Girling ones - remember they are nothing fancy, probably fitted originally to an Allegro or Viva etc.. |

I needed to replace mine last year and Gavin Ray supplied the Wilwood ones as he said they were better and cheaper. There have been no problems with them at all. The Girling ones that were fitted started sticking even after cleaning and rebuilding.

yes I should have written Quality Control rather than quaity; if they work they are OK. ISTR they moved manufacturing offshore / east / 3rd world?

OK, I am putting together a wee Clubmans car, 1600 Kent/Hewland (it used to be a F1300) and the Master Cylinder sizes I am thinking are..,
Front = 0.625-0.70 Rear = 0.75 Is this correct before I purchase? also, what size should I get for the Clutch? Many thanks. |

master cyls
my FF1600 has 0.65 front and rear and 0.7 clutch. depends on what brakes you have on the car and pedal ratio.

The RF92 FF1600 I am running uses 0.625 front 0.700 rear and 0.750 clutch. I went for the copy parts in the end . . . they don't have the little internal ridge to stop the extension rotating (if you use extensions). I think the slightly more expensive Wilwood ones come with the internal ridge. To be fair the copies look much better items . . . they look die cast rather than sand cast.

Cylinders fed by remote reservoir are probably Hillman Imp derived. Available with dia's; 0.625";0.70";0.75": Hope this helps the bargain hunt.
