Barrichello to BAR?
Don't know if this has been posted elsewhere, but autosport.com is reporting a rumour (denied by Ferrari, so perhaps true?) that if the CRB rules in favour of Williams and Jenson Button goes to Grove for 2005, then BAR will take on Rubens Barrichello as lead driver, his place at Ferrari being taken by Vitantonio Liuzzi. Now that would be interesting!

That would be interesting, but I can't see Ferrari putting an F1 unknown into one of their cars straight off no matter how good his credentials are!

Incredibly unlikely, but that'd be superb!

The article didn't say they'd take him on as much as they've considered it.
Very unlikely. It will be David Coulthard or Anthony Davidson. |

Yet stranger things have happened... A lot would depend on Barrichello's contractual status. He had signed until 2006, but I don't know if there are any get-out clauses.

I'd be surprised if Ferrari were willing to upset the status quo. Though it would be nice in some ways for Rubens to have a go as a team leader for a year or two.
I guess it depends on his ambitions and any contract clauses. Let's be honest, how many more wins is he likely to get in a season as number 1 with another team than as number 2 at Ferrari? I'm loathe to say it won't happen, because the last few weeks and months seem to have proved that anything can happen, but do I really think it will? ... naaah. |

I hope so... Rubinho needs a fresh start!!
unlikely that Ferrari would give the nod to Liuzzi straight away without a year of experience... |

If this where to happen what a move it would be for Vitantonio Liuzzi and I think it would also be good for F1 as it would be refreshing to see a young new driver in a top team. What happens if the CRB rule that JB is contracted to BAR would Williams then aim there sigths on RB which would mean that the Liuzzi move could still be on the cards. At some stage MS will retire and Vitantonio Liuzzi could be the perfect replacement so why not get him in ASAP

Another theory: if the CRB rules in favour of BAR, might Williams make renewed attempts to get Barrichello? After all, the market is a bit thinner than it was if they don't get Button: Pizzonia, Heidfeld, Davidson, Coulthard (maybe; if he hasn't signed for someone else by then), Bourdais... Not a bad crop, by any means, but not perhaps as good as might have been available two months ago.

Well, Autosport are sadly not a credible sourse these days. One of those "believe it when you see it" things.

RB may have made the best choice of his life if he's going to BAR...he can be world champ with this team but never on Ferrari...If the rumors are true...

Michael will beat Rubens to the WDC if Rubens is at Ferrari or BAR
Autosport is pushing the 'not true' angle at the moment. This would surprise me if it happened. |

I don't know.........give Rubens a car advantage over Schumacher of about two seconds per lap and he has every chance!

While the series may never happen, it was a properly sourced story. GPM has also been advertising in the magazine. You can't really accuse them of making things up. Events of today suggest Autosport are prepared to be litigious when they have to be..... |
