NORTH-WEST LIBRE SPORTS & SALOONS

Following the successful 30 car grid of Libre Saloons and Sports at the Anglesey Circuit Club’s Winter Race Day on November 30th, the BRSCC are planning what will essentially be a North-West 2009 Series for Libre Sports and Saloons.

At present, the class structure is not totally finalised but it is likely to be based on the following categories.
# Sports racing cars upto 2000cc
# Unlimited production based sports or saloons
# Upto 1600cc production based sports or saloons
# Pre 1970 unlimited sports and saloons
# Pre 1970 upto 1150cc sports and saloons
# Invitation class

The current trend of one-make championships prohibits many people from racing cars of their choice and is particularly boring for spectators.
In NWLSS, the variety of cars and their different levels of performance add to the spectacle. For the drivers it is an opportunity to develop their skill regarding judgement, overtaking and being overtaken.

Modern, historic, sports, saloon, GT or Caterham-type cars would all be welcomed. Also, the invitation category for cars that do not fit into the specific categories.

All cars must comply with the 2009 MSA car racing regulations and the series will provide the opportunity to race a variety of cars providing they fit into the above categories.

This is intended to be a true club series and any aggressive driving will not be tolerated.

April 26 Mallory Park BRSCC
June 13/14 Cadwell Park BRSCC
July 4/5 Anglesey Leinster Motor Club
August 15 Oulton Park BRSCC
September 26 Anglesey BRSCC
November 29 Anglesey Anglesey Circuit Club


This new Series truly does cater for any type of closed wheel car.
Previous meetings at Anglesey with a class to this concept have received entries of upto 60 cars, ranging from Historic Imps upto Porsche 997 GT3 Cup cars.
Also the "perceived distance to the circuit" doesn't seem to matter to the regular winter meeting diehards who come from as far afield as Scotland, Kent, Devon, etc., to sample proper club racing.

Entry forms for the first round on Sunday 15th March on the Anglesey Coastal Circuit [2 races for £175] are downloadable from www.angleseycircuit.com

There are also races at this meeting for Single Seater Formula Libre, Open Sports Cars, Caterham type cars and FF1600.

Any drivers needing early season licence upgrade signatures can get two at this meeting.
There is reduced price testing on Saturday 14th March.

So, what has this got going for it, versus the BARC run NW sports/saloons championship?

I.e. why do we need another one?

seems pretty straightforward - and makes a lot of sense, in particular with the current economic climate..

if i look at this and compare to the number of other new championships being kicked off this year - this one has no frills.. i..e TV coverage, hospitality, tyre deals, and specific regulations... so it suits the club racer very well... and the entry costs show they are doing it on a budget - and passing it on

I certainly woudl loke to get over to one or two events this year - and that includes having to factor ferry costs from ireland...

i know iam only a marshal and not a racer but on the dangour of being attacked by diz in the coming season i would like to say....... first, a crackin idea. the open saloon races at anglesey meetings always have some amazing racing and great and varied grids. i also know someone on here quite new to racing who did the last meeting and said only 2 days ago it was some of the most fun he had ever had, especially with the size of the grid and mix of cars.

on the other hand as it has been mentioned would this not be affected or have an affect on the nw west sports saloons. i do realise though that this series is run by barc and looking at the calendar the new one will be brscc so iam assuming that this is just opening up a good series to non barc members

Why did you use impact font, it makes the post hard to read and adds nothing! ;-)

BTW I think its yet another catch all series dipping into a ever smaller pool of racers, not what is required in the current climate IMHO.

As always you are on top of things. I take your point re the font, but it seemed like a good idea at the time.
And as for your pessimism about the current climate, that turns out to be well founded. Sadly the first round won't take place.

At 1600 today, the decision was taken to cancel the Season Opener race meeting scheduled to take place at Anglesey Circuit on Sunday 15th March 2009.

The total entry received for the meeting was only 5 cars :
Formula Ford 3
Single Seater Formula Libre zero
Open Sports Cars zero
NW Libre Sports Saloons 1
Caterhams 1

We know that there would have been a few more to come, but the signs were not looking good to achieve a total entry that wouldn't have resulted in a large financial loss, as it costs about five thousand pounds to put on a club race meeting, no matter how few, or many, competitors there are.

The Test Day on Saturday 14th March will still take place, as will a Test Day on the 7th March. Book via the circuit on 01407 811400

Sorry Diz I did not want to put the mockers on it and where as I really admire you for having the balls to have a go I just thought maybe not the right time just yet as things stand with this ruddy recession, sorry again. BTW I would like to take in Anglesey one day before I finally hang up my helmet.
