It was LeMans, actually. They raced there one time, its first time and it was painted black and placed right in the battle for the lead of the biggest race. I think Nakajima was paying attention to his battle with Audi and didnt even see it. Thats the ONLY incident with an lmp car.

Why do GT cars need headlights for a 3-hour race? It's an unneccessary expense. Most racing series(F1, IndyCar, NASCAR) and SCCA racers manage just fine without them. Andy Flinn Last edited by ACFlinn; 9 Aug 2013 at 20:33. |

The Camaro is way narrow and pointed in the nose. That and the grille and headlights are massive.

Sportscars have actual headlights because they are actual cars, not a bunch of tubes people bought at Home Depot. I don't think lights, something on every road-going car in the civilized world, are unnecessary. |

Why do GT cars need headlights for sprint races? Obviously, Stevenson concluded that they are not necessary. Andy Flinn |

Because this isn't oval racing. The weather changes. If it start's raining (or gets dark!) I would want headlights as a driver so others can see me. Do you drive without your headlights on in the rain?

If the weather (heavy rains or fog) is bad enough they run under yellow or red-flag the race - even at the Rolex 24 where the cars have headlights. Again, why do GT cars need headlights for a sprint race? Andy Flinn |

Because they are actual cars, not a collection of tubes people bought at Home Depot. Your real car doesn't have stickers for headlights if you just drive to the market, does it?

F1 is not sportscar racing. Why are you comparing sportscar to open wheel racers? Sportscars have windshields or windscreens and the driver is inside the car so vision out is nowhere near as good in those conditions.

There is no Grand-Am regulation that I am aware of that bans headlights on GT cars for sprint races. Andy Flinn |

Funny, I was going to look for shots of the Holbert 962 when they didn't have headlights, and that's the only pictures I find.
