What a farce. This is exactly why needless Red Flag restarts are stupid.

I know no-one wants safety car finishes but this is utterly farcical.

So now we are going to have a restart using the order of the previous restart...and then a safety car finish anyway.

Couldn't we have just finished the to race under the safety car 30 minutes ago and not gone through a ridiculous crash that involved half the field?

Seems a bit unfair that the Astons get their results back but the Alpines don’t. Why can’t the result just be called after 56 laps as the race should never have been restarted anyway.

Are you suggesting Race Control should make up their own rules Masi style or follow the rules and have restarted the race as was proper and correct?

Fair enough, maybe after the initial mistake it was their only option.

The real problem here was the initial red flag for the Magnussen incident. It just isn’t right that a 2 lap sprint at the end of the race can be worth an entire Grand Prix (effectively). If there is a red flag after the distance where full points are awarded, the race should be stopped. Or at least there should be a rolling restart as this is less likely to alter the results. This season, Formula e racing has been far more exciting, and more pure, than Formula 1.

In 1981 the FIA had a rule that if 75% of the race has been run and a red flag comes out then the race is declared as this is how Dick Johnson won his first Bathurst 1000, the FIA need to add this rule back in, maybe change the percentage to 90 or 95% of the race but that last 3 laps of that race was a joke and puts F1 as the joke of the day

I'd prefer to see more racing than less so would want the race to continue to the end if possible. Was unfortunate for some today, but that is just their bad luck. Next time the rules may favour them, just as it happens with yellow flags and safety cars at other times.

The DRS situation made passing a joke. 4 DRS zones? And they're both double with single detection points? Everyone was just DRS passing. Was there any legit passes?

Race control once again made a complete mess of everything. The first red flag didn't need to be a red flag. This is literally what the SC is for. Why did that need a red flag? For some gravel on the road? Even NASCAR wouldn't red flag a race for this. How are teams meant to plan strategy when race control will make random decisions like this?

The second red flag was purely for Netflix. If the race wasn't due to finish, they'd have used a SC and it'd have been fine. So why was it a red flag? To get an exciting finish? What do you think will happen on 2 flag shootouts? NASCAR goes through this all the time. It was 100% predictable what was about to happen.

And then after the most predictable accident in the world, it turns out that lap didn't count anyway. So they reset back to the positions before hand, minus Alpine who'd managed to delete themselves, only for a wee parade at the end? And this means that Sainz gets penalised for a lap which, officially, doesn't exist.

2 unnecessary red flags eventually caused a necessary one. The blame of that accident lies more at the feet of race control than it does Sainz or the Alpines.

Like your shouting at the cloud but don't agree with this - for sure some passes were pure DRS, as we have become accustomed to - but there were some that we say where BOTH cars had DRS and the passing moves were pure racing - Perez & Piastri were examples of a couple of edgy, glorious passes.

Couldn't agree with you more and am joining you in your shouting at the cloud. There are dumb things that happen from time to time and pressure from time etc does sometimes come into play but race control took plenty of time on the decisions concerned and made a mess of all of them - must say this "race management by committee" approach doesn't appear to be working particularly well. For sure, there is info we don't have or don't see but I absolutely couldn't see the sense in restarting for two laps - that ended up exactly the way I expected as soon as it was announced.

Its not 'bad luck'. Its bad management.
I was following the race on live timing and the timing had the results quite different from the way the results were massaged later.

Starting a race with a grid start with two or three laps left is simply a foolish procedure, particularly when the grid start is one of the most dangerous parts of the entire race.
In this case the rule should be a rolling start single file after any race stoppage once the first two laps are completed.
The rules are what they are but what happened in Australia is a nonsense as a sporting competition.
Everyone will have their own opinion and point of view, but this ending will reverberate for a long while.
