Excellent feature ST, keep them coming. Good analysis from Bonomi regarding the teams as well - it's true that Sauber are the main dark horse again.

Very true, it will be interesting to see if Sauber can take what are on the face of it fabulous ingredients, and actually turn them into tangiable results.
In terms of the engine rule, I believe the team can replace some parts, like a fuel pump and a clutch, but replacing a camshaft, for example, would count as an engine change. In a way, its put some of the pressure back onto the engine suppliers, BMW for example were rumoured to be rapping their fingers on the table in impatience at William's sluggish start to 2003, much was made of this when the renewal of contract talks dragged on a bit. Not that I'm suggest there is anything uneasy about their partnership, but it does put a different complextion on things, if a blown engine end up's putting a car at the back of the grid, putting the team on the back foot before the race has even started. As has been posted before, Honda seem to have the biggest stride to make in reliablity terms, and would potentially be a regular victim of the engine rule if 2003's reliability was repeated. Ferrari's seemingly bullet proof cars and engines look best placed to avoid many penalties. |

I think the interesting things for me are going to be A) finding out exactly how far advanced an evolution of the Ferrari Sauber have been given (Would you sell/ give them the latest evolution of the 2003) and B) How Jordan will fair against Jaguar (with the same spec engines).. What happens in either case if the customers beat the suppliers? (Assuming it's not close enough for either Jordan or Sauber to recieve some late race engine discount opportunities.. wink wink nudge nudge!)

Brilliant information ST - especially the ITV viewing times.
I have a very 'heavy' Melbourne week-end, weddings etc.. (not mine, I hasten to add,) and am STILL awaiting ITV to respond to my email as to viewing times!!!!! |

Satelite of Australian weather as we speak (this might update, I've posted now to test if it will!)
Obtained from http://uk.weather.yahoo.com/ASXX/ASXX0075/index_c.html I remember last year when it looked like the weather might play a part. I had a webcam in melbourne up so that I could see what the skyline looked like! Aint the interweb great! Last edited by Adam43; 20 Feb 2004 at 11:01. |

Uhn... Just to help some others like me. I know that are many australians here, but being a big country and not being an expert in geography, I got myself wondering where Melbourne stands in that weather map Adam showed us. I believe it would happen if I have posted one of my own country...
So here it is, to help us to locate the places... |

Well, with ST providing info like that, I shall enjoy coming out of hibernation.
Thanks for all the hard work. It has made my low-cal ham sandwich this lunch time all the more interesting! With the engine changes I wonder whether this season will see more retirements and breakdowns than last, which could change things somewhat. Renault last season seemed to win lots of points for regular finishing but will the new configuration serve them as well? Also Kimi's comments could suggest that Ferrari may gain an early advantage which Mac's will struggle to close. Personally can't wait to see how the Williams fairs. IMO the rule changes are good espcially the gear changing. Only worry is that if Minardi change an engine they may be starting behind the kebab van! |

Very nice work S T. Will you be doing all the gp's yourself? Can't wait for the fun to start. Now I'm hopping from foot to foot and it's all your fault.
