Nakano's massive crash
Firstly, thank goodness Shinya Nakano is ok, but it could have been so much worse as his rear tyre exploded while flat stick in top gear [200/210mph] going over the startline at Mugello.
He waved as he was put on the scoop stretcher and race direction gave an update saying he was "conscious with no serious injuries". The force of the impact with the tarmac was enough to pop the zip on his leathers........... Hope to see you at the next race, Shinya! |

Lucky, lucky boy. To have a tyre let go at 200mph s not something I'd wish on anyone.
I'm just thankful that he's ok. |

Thats probably the most incrediable crash I've seen on bike racing with no serious injuries. Lucky boy indeed!
What a corker of a race though! |

Firstly glad he's OK - it was a horrific crash and the number of times he rolled and banged his head. But when the marshals took his helmet off, they weren't very careful and didn't support his head very well!!!
Secondly, damn 2 part race!! Having set the tape and going to work, I missed the 6-lap sprint as the BBC put this on in the 2.30 edition of Grandstand!!! Was it a good race? |

It was superb, Shane Byrne had a great run on the Cube, battling with Barros and Rossi and he ran as high as 5th, eventually finishing 10th.
The track was dry on some corners and wet in others, the level of skill on display was mind-blowing as they slipped and slithered around on slicks! The new race format is one that i like, compared to a confusing for the spectator aggregate race, this 6 lap sprint left no-one in any doubt as to who was leading. |

The 6 lap sprint was crazy, only the damn Free- To-Air aussie commentators didn't latch onto the fact that it was for sheep stations, other wise I would've rooted for Bayliss all the way to the finish, but during (and after) there were some pretty funny quotes from one of our commentators...

I stand to be corrected as I've only seen the incident once but to me it looked like Nakano took his own helmet off without assistance.

He's lucky that he did not hit the unprotected concrete wall any harder than he did.

I've been car racing all my life and I tell you, these Moto GP events are just the most amazing racing. As good as anything I can remember in 40 years.
The whole Mugello race was totally awesome. My immediate reaction is that many good folk need telling, this is where the action is. Rossi is just totally something else (4th to 1st in one lap against the world's best?). I am EXHAUSTED after watching what he does. One of the highlights this weekend though was the girl holding the Roman Empora Max's brolly. Just who was she? I have never seen such a beautiful Italian woman! |

gfm, i'm the same as you, an avid car racing fan all my life, but now it is bikes every time for me.
Yesterday's racing in both MotoGP and BSB was superb, something Formula 1 will never be. When will people listen, we don't give a stuff about strategies and overtaking in the pits, gloves off, no holds barred, fairing bashing action is what people want to see. Car racing is disappearing up its own backside fast, and the powers that be seem quite happy to see it that way, bizarre really. |

You are quite right JS!
I've watched bike racing for some years too and it's always been good. But the Moto GP bike - what is it 240 bhp through acontact patch the size of my size 10? Power sliding with rear tyres burning. The sheer grunt. Then they are all so brave. 207 mph at Mugello, which I know well. That's FAST. I'm sorry too that car racing's not getting it's recipe right. Some years ago I thought that with tyres going the way they were, suspension design HAD to be identical, so variety went out of the window. Then with all that grip and downforce, car's got too quick for circuits. It simply isn't the same and it pains me to admit it. Moto GP is wonderful and I'm sure here's so much to learn from their show. I say JS, where can we get that girl's address. She's on the www.motogp.com site! |

The best racing, the most charismatic entertaining riders, varied and close action, and it even attracts a higher class of girls. We've been wasting our lives on the 4-wheel stuff....

He did hit that concrete wall - good job he had rolled all his speed off prior else it would have been curtains.
