STCC - Round 1 - Knutstorp

It's time for the season opener this weekend at Ring Knutstorp.

The Mercedes team will not run, as their engines has been delayed and won't arrive until next week. They are showing off their engineless cars though in the pits.

During Thursday's test Tommy Rustad was fastest in his Opel. He also managed to crash into the fastest driver in the JTCC class (the Junior class), Therese Svensson. Rustad ran into the side of her Ford. Second fastest on Thursday was Thed Björk for the BMW Dealer Team. Third was Sturesson in the Peugeot 407 and fourth Engström in the Honda Accord. The two Volvo cars were quite a bit off the pace of the top cars.

Is Rustad still using that old nail of the 01 BTCC Astra or has it been replaced with a new one?

It's the same car as he drove last year, but with a new engine. Last year they had to limit the revs to be able to run with the STCC rules.

Second test:

1 Richard Göransson BMW 320i 1:02.941
2 Tommy Rustad Opel Astra 1:03.018
3 Thed Björk BMW 320i 1:03.053
4 Edward Sandström Volvo S60 1:03.098
5 Mattias Andersson Alfa Romeo 156 1:03.137
6 Johan Stureson Peugot 407 1:03.146
7 Fredrik Ekblom Audi A4 1:03.169
8 Tommy Kristoffersson Audi A4 1:03.249
9 Tomas Engström Honda Accord 1:03.285
10 Robert Dahlgren Volvo S60 1:03.345
11 Jan Nilsson BMW 320i 1:03.536
12 Daniel Haglöf Honda Civic 1:03.886
13 Jens Hellström Honda Civic 1:03.889
14 Johan Nilsson BMW 320d 1:07.025
15 Joakim Gustavsson Volvo S60 1:08.917

Rustad does have some speed in that "old" Astra! Nice to see that Johan Nilsson is on the grid with his diesel BMW 320d, not bad to be 4 sec behind with the first ever S2000 car that his team have developed on their own!

Interestning races tomorrow for sure, Im going there in the morning!

Who's developing the MB engines? The engine is not an in house design?

The engine is being build in Lichtenstein, not sure of the company name though.

So it's the original Astra? Not bad showing if that's the case as those which ran in the BTCC last year were starting to show their age.

Did the STCC Astra get a comprehensive chassis and engine since last season? Perhaps the other BTCC cars lacked those? The STCC effort is a semi-works (??) one compared to the Independent ones in the BTCC?

Must clarify that there was no BMW diesel there. It was Johan Nilssons STCC Challenge BMW with a normal petrol engine.

A bit late, but anyhow, I really liked the new concept with the qualifying heats instead of a regular timed qualifying session, and there was some good, hard - but for the most part clean - racing. Can't wait for the next round

Just been looking at the pictures, the number 97 car looks very nice indeed. It looks like a good series, the Audi is very nice aswell.

Whats the STCC Challenge aswell?

STCC Challenge is more for Super Production spec. cars. Allthough there is only two cars in that class so far this year.
