ranoff should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Shelsley Walsh Centenary Celebrations

Authorised press release from the Midland Automobile Club follows:

The first entries for the Centenary Celebrations of Shelsley Walsh have already arrived.

August 19, 20, 21 will be the focus of attention of the 100th year of Shelsley Walsh Speed Hill Climb in Worcestershire. It is now the oldest unchanged motorsport venue in the world, continuing to draw spectacular cars, drivers and crowds as the historic hill enters into its next century.

The three day meeting will encompass practice on the Friday with a round of the British Hill Climb Championship on the Saturday before the invitational event on the Sunday.

With Big Screen TV Coverage in the paddock, the range of cars already confirmed, the number of former Hill Climb Champions and the cream of the quickest Hill Climb cars of the 21st Century, the event is already attracting pre-ticket sales from enthusiasts. The Midland Automobile Club is also in deep discussions with some celebrity drivers too.

The event is going to be the biggest Shelsley Walsh meeting ever.

We were all waiting on the rumours of the confirmed entries at the week-end, and would anyone let anything slip? Not a word. Keep checking the website too.

Still, if it's only as good as the club centenary it will be awesome, and I imagine it will be even better. For many of us, this will be the meeting of the year and I for one can't wait.

For a start that's looking like a good weekend of racing and with the number of top cars and drivers could we see the hill record being broken?

Andrew, don't forget the above entry is just for SUNDAY! On Friday & Saturday we will have a 'normal' British Hillclimb Round!

Can hardly wait!

Ooh, Eddie, thanks. A real mouthwatering list. Class 9 will be my favourite, I think. I only just caught Bolsover before he went to circuits, and Charles Wardle was one of my favourites - that fabulous Pilbeam-Repco. Please tell me it still exists. Will also be interesting to see the competiveness of Rowan, Brown and Griffiths. I can't imagine they'll be slow.

Other particularly pleasing sights will be Joy Rainey, Phil's Crumpett Special and my favourite BMW 328 Aero.

That looks to be still short of a full entry, so can I assume there's even more still to come?

I think that list is 'accepted invitations' in pretty much the first wave. So you can assume there will be more...

If there are going to be fireworks in the moderns I expect them to be on Saturday, Sunday there will be more oil on the track from the vintage chaps and little motivation to run good tyres...

Class 5 is going to be the one I most want to see...
After seeing the ERA race at Donny last year boy what a sight...
It beggars belief sometimes just how quick those old cars (and drivers) can really go...

I tend to agree with Paul about Sunday.....Think it will be less frantic and more demo due to the nature of the event..

They're amazing aren't they? Mac's record climb left everyone open mouthed, sheer commitment all the way. From what I remember of the club's centenary, 'demo' meant about ½ a second slower than normal. It may not be quite balls out, but Shelsley isn't a place that many people want to just pootle up. You need to be pressing on just to make it up the incline.

With that line up I may even grace you with my presence again this year - but only if I can have a kip in the rescue when it all gets too much for me!

But they are 'Former Hill Climb Champions' and i think the class title means one can be exclusive of the other

It would be good to see Andy Priaulx in something faster than a Williams, maybe discussions are ongoing?

'Flying Lemon'? Is that preferable to 'Custard Cream'? Debateable. Anyway the faster it goes the better it looks...
