Upon re-reading my post you might notice the wording, asking IF it could be the start of it.

Its also gone up big against the dollar Terry so I think optimism is justified, anyhow I am off to Malaga in a few weeks for my niece's wedding so it should really go up now.

The page I'm looking at shows a 1.17% change which is pretty big depending how much money you stand to lose or gain.

its 0.8689 currently and a break of 0.8660 should open up a test of 0.8600 leading onto 0.8250 - GBP is strengthening, if you lok at Cable (GBP/USD) it has rallied pretty much from the moment the possible downgrade was mentioned. I will stick my neck out and say we have seen the lows in GBP. Time to repatriate foriegn investments. But here is the interesting question, race cars have been supported in GBP terms by EUR buyers, in EUR terms they have fallen, so will a strengthening pound soften race car prices in GBP terms? The same argument could possibly apply to central London property prices...

I hadn't done the exact calc last night but this a.m. its .87% as Simon quotes above, again though hardly the start of a run for either currency.

That said the real price of the Dollar should be around 1.65 and oil should be running at around $80 pb.

Bit off topic, but...

Just had my six-monthly water rates bill - 24 euros. That's 1 euro up from last time but it's not enough to send me rushing back to mouldy old Britain just yet!

Nice and gentle starts are always longer lived. If it rocketed it would soon come crashing down again.

well its 1.1485 the trend is the important thing and from the 18th March low of 1.0590 the channel is clearly going higher, I reckon the trendline support is about 1.1250 but really we should be asking another ten tenths poster for his comments as chief economist at a major bank he is on record in the papers as saying the green shoots are evident... I wont break his anonymity but he is racing at Snett this weekend!
