Stock Hatch Rallycross

Just looking into what would be a realistic budget in stock hatch rally cross, with everything included, license, car, race registration, membership etc. Also if you think that a series in rallycross is going to be cheaper than a circuit racing series.
Thanks, Arthur

Hi Arthur

I bought a 205 in 2010 without any prior racing experience and therefore no equipment (such as suit, helmet, gloves, shoes etc). I would suggest that it cost me around £3000 to go from scratch to being on the grid at Lydden in August 2010. And that included the borrowing of a trailer and a towing vehicle (off family) as I couldn't fit a tow bar to my VRS.

Depending on how far you are travelling, each event is likely to set you back around £300 and your annual charge for a license and championship membership will be just less than £100.

I have no experience of circuit racing, but it cannot be as exciting as Rallycross.

Hope that helps. Leigh

Hi Leigh, thanks for response. £3000 doesn't sound to bad. What is the specific race license that you need to get for rallycross?

Hey Sorry I dont mean to thread jack but I have been lurking in this section for a few days now and also very insterested.

Is there anything like open trackdays where a newb such as me can come along, meet some drivers and learn a few things before I hit the grid in clubmans ?

Lydden is my nearest track, I see they do have trackdays but not sure if that includes the rallycross aswell ?

The trackdays are for circuit racers only at Lydden, Come down on the 24th and talk to a few off the drivers, think Lydden have hosted midweek test days for rallycross but am not 100% sure on this.

If you come down to lydden on the 24th, there's the first round of our series. You can come down into the paddock, everyone will be willing to talk (presuming we're not busy repairing a car for the next heat :P) and you'll be bound to find someone who was once in the same situation as you.

It's a National B Non-Race License. You can download the application form from the MSA website - www.msauk.org

I think you will need to submit a paper copy with a passport photo the first time, from then on you can re-apply on line. You also do not need to undertake a medical. Just leave that section blank.

I would imagine you could run at any rallyschool or something near you, they would be glad of the income. Very unlikey you could ever test on a rallycross track.

Somehting I would love to have a go at, but would need to hire as I dont have space.facilities for keeping a car.

As mentioned elsewhere, the sharing option is great, but peopel in the UK dont share the enthusiasm to share of their worldwide counterparts!! Hilariuous
