Yes John Watson not the golfer. I was thinking of Tom Pryce at the time of posting pretty sure he drove the Shadow with AJ.

If my memory serves me well Alan Jones joined Shadow after Tom Pryce died. He won the Austrian GP that year. He was later joined at Shadow by Ricardo Patrese.

I was going to say Jones winning in the awful Shadow! And Villeneuve in the 126C Ferrari, which was an awful car.
I wouldnt say Bergers Benetton BMW was that great a car, but altitude helped him! THe Lotus Honda that Senna won in Detriot and Monaco was a lumpy old heap that won coz of the suspension. Perhaps even the P34 Tyrrell, not that great a car anywhere else. But my vote goes to Gilles, bless him |

In '77 it had problems that were tyre related to needing special tyres during a tyre war. |

It also gained some weight between '76 and '77, that coupled with the tyre issue made it a bit of a pig to drive.

Regarding the Shadow, Jones finished 7th in the championship that year, bearing in mind he missed the first three rounds that would suggest the DN8 wasn't a complete hound.

Neither the Tyrrell P34 or the Shadow DN8 were dogs (Pryce may certainly have won in the latter). On the other hand, the 2003 Jordan EJ13 really was a crock of poop.
There have been plenty of mediocre GP-winning cars and rubbish cars that have made the podium but, on the whole, the majority of victorious cars have some redeeming features. |

Would the Red Bull, Ferrari or Mercedes count this season or do looks not count toward making it a bad car?
