2012 Auto GP Season Discussion
Perhaps a bit early for this thread, but Auto GP have announced a provisional 2012 calendar, including races at Sonoma, Curitiba and Suzuka (!), all alongside the WTCC.

in the context of fr3.5 looking at brazil and russia, isn't 3 long haul events a bit run before you can walk? or are they just repositioning themselves in the market?
incidentally i figured fr3.5 would probably head to curitiba on the wtcc package as well as monza. perhaps not, having seen that calendar. |

BWUHHHHH?!?! Why? Doesn't make sense. Maybe they'll pick up a Russell kid and make it worth someone's time. I mean, I love that they'll be here, but in Sonoma? While Watkins Glen, Laguna Seca, and Road America are without open wheelers? |

It is infuriating that those tracks are dormant for single seaters, but Auto GP are just following WTCC to Sonoma. I wonder if the same crappy IndyCar layout will be used too?
It does seem strange that they're planning 3 flyaway races in a championship that's supposed to be a cheap GP2/FR3.5 alternative, and one that always struggles for full grids. |

3 flyaway races kills any low budget championship.

GP2 Asia lasted four seasons, and only the first two had several fly-away races. The last two seasons were only made in Middle East (and even Europe), thus the distance wasn't so long for the teams.

Nice idea! But they should better fill the grids. 14 cars in 6km would be even more ridiculous, not to mention boring to watch.

Daniele Audetto, ex-Ferrari team manager and Renault business development director, has lent his support to Auto GP's expansion plans for 2012.

New British team joins Auto GP
New British team joins Auto GP
Good news coming from Auto GP, Andy Roach & Paul Devlin both ex Supernova have teamed up to start a new team 'Virtuosi'. Auto GP are getting top class people involved now, looks to be an interesting formula for drivers with big prize funds and it helped Grosjean get back to F1. Best of luck |

I think Suzuka has been dropped from the calendar.

You're right. I see there are several other changes with the calendar shown on the site. Some rounds have changed date, while Donington is replaced by Marrakech, and Estoril has replaced Brno.
11 March Monza (ITA) 1 April Valencia (ESP) 15 April Marrakech (MAR) 6 May Budapest (HUN) 3 June Estoril (POR) 22 July Curitiba (BRA) 23 September Sonoma (USA) I would guess this is still a provisional calendar. |

From Argentina we have hopes of the series, since Facundo Regalia will race for Campos GP, he'll be present in 6 of 7 rounds, because one clashes with his Euro F3 schedule.

Very good point)) Sadly, not so funny for IndyCar. Depends on what Kumho brings, they must be at least extremely close to IndyCar in qualifying.

Good point about IndyCar. Although I doubt WTCC will use the same layout. But then, the NASCAR layout could be dangerous for single seaters such as AutoGP(final few corners), so who knows. Hell, even IndyCar isn't decided on the layout they'll use in 2012, after last year's procession, there were persistant rumours about possible changes in order to improve passing. |

That's a pretty dismal driver line up, but as long as the cheques are coming in I'm sure Adrian's happy.
