Charlie Whiting RIP
Very sad news and a big gap to fill in the world of Motor Racing.
Formula 1’s race director Charlie Whiting has died on the eve of the start of the Australian Grand Prix. The 66-year-old, who was a huge figure within the FIA, was found dead in his hotel room after suffering a pulmonary embolism on Thursday morning, motorsport’s governing body confirmed. Whiting was an ever-present in parc ferme before a race, inspecting cars and enforcing the rules during a race. His responsibilities also included starting the races and deciding when to stop, pause or restart them. He was at the track with the likes of Sebastian Vettel just a day before he died. FIA president Jean Todt said in a statement: “It is with immense sadness that I learned of Charlie’s sudden passing. https://www.foxsports.com.au/motorsp...61ab4e4814f06f RIP Charlie Whiting. 12 August 1952-14th March 2019 |

Shock news and he was only 66. It really hits you when you read Kubica saw him only yesterday with Vettel and decided to wait to speak to him tomorrow. Show's how someone can be there, then not
He had a great life working his way up from being a mechanic first with Hesketh, then with Brabham to being race director. My favourite memory of him would be in China 2010, his reaction to Fred jumping the start! RIP Charlie |

Sad news of course. RIP, Charlie. A key figure in Formula 1 in multiple rules recently and someone who had done a lot in the sport. Very young too.

A huge loss to F1, and of course an even bigger one to his family, friends and colleagues. My condolences to all of them.
Won’t seem the same without you, Charlie. R.I.P. |

He also worked with his brothers Nick and Andrew and created the wonderful Mk.2 Ford Escort GAA V6, which was a lovely creation. He certainly knew his way around a car and the mechanical side of things.
