circuit licenses?
i've no idea where to post this, so i'll just drop it in here.
The fia gives a grade to every circuit they approve, like 1 for a circuit approved for F1 and 2 for a circuit approved for F3000/a1gp/indycar/etc. races. Does anybody know where i can find a list of these grades per circuit? I've already searched the fia-site but couldn't find anything. |

If I remember well, the tracks like to keep their grading to themselves, unless they have a top grading obviously.
It is a bit shameful to see that track so-and-so only has grade ..... I think that's why FIA does not have a list on their website. |

Some tracks have more than one licence. For example the Brands Indy circuit has one and so does the Brands GP circuit, although not both licences are for the same grade (I think)

And there are also separate licences for two wheels or four.
In the UK, only Silverstone currently meets Grade 1 standard. Donington Park and Rockingham were Grade 2 last I heard, and Brands GP has applied for, (and probably by now) been awarded Grade 2. Grade 2 is the lowest level at which you can host an international car race. |

Well, google has been a help, so here all European tracks allowed to have "international events", so the ones with at least level 2 grades (i might have missed a couple):
France: http://ffsa.turbo.m6.fr/pratiquer/re.../circuit05.pdf ("find=grade") Magny Cours - 1 Le Mans 24h - 2 Le Mans Bugatti - 2 Dijon - 2 Pau - 2 Nogaro - 2 Italy: http://www.csai.aci.it/csaiCms/Virtu...id=730&rif=DOC (find=grado) Monza - 1 Imola - 1 Mugello - 1 Fiorano - 1T Vairano - 1T (only straight line) Nardo - 1T (only "area test"?!?) Enna Pergusa - 2 Adria - 2 Magione - 2 Misano - 2 Vallelunga - 2 England Silverstone - 1 Brands Hatch - 2 (had cart, are adjusting for full circuit grade 2) Rockingham - 2 (had cart) Donnington - 2 Germany Hockenheim - 1 Nurnburgring - 1 Lausitzring - 2 (had cart) Oschersleben - 2 Sachsenring - ? (do have motogp) Norisring - ? (have dtm) Spain Barcelona - 1 Jerez - 1T? (had f1 for a few years ago) Valencia - 2 Jarama - 2 (fia gt races over there) Holland Zandvoort - 1T (since a couple of years if i'm not mistaken) Assen - 2 (they got it this year) Belgium Spa Francorchamps - 1 Zolder - ? (i'm guessing 2) Portugal Estoril - 1/1T/2 ? (not to long ago an f1-track) Sweden Anderstorp - 2 (fia gt raced over there) ireland Mondello Park - 2 czech Brno - 2 Most - ? Austria A1/Zeltweg - 1 (does the track still exist?) Hungary Hungaroring - 1 So a few blanks, and possibly i missed a few? |

Why are you surprised at that? It's hosted Grands Prix for years. |

It seems to me that all circuits that host F1 events are (and have to be) Grade 1 along with those who host F1 testing. The others are Grade 2 which allows them to host any FIA event other than F1.

Kerbing height and shape Barrier protection (Tyres or Foam blocks) marshals posts - location and number pits Sure car/bike needs can be made to exist together but often only with some difficulty and, in some cases, changes between the two uses. For example Donington last year had to have all the "rumble" kerbing removed from both edges of the track, all the way round, to keep its MotoGP licence. Also Donington has to deploy hundreds of straw bales for bike meetings. The kerbing on clipping points is now so insignificant that many car races cut corners with impunity (and then complain about dirt and stones on the track. Regards Jim |

All the circuits that host F1 are Grade 1 circuits. Those who no longer host F1 or F1 testing will be downgraded to Grade 2. Circuits in general don't apply to become grade 1 circuits unless they want to host an F1 race. Grade 2 is quite sufficient for most.
