The car did it's job Grant and although the roll loop appeared broken before they lifted the car, it did protect the driver's head in a violent impact and roll. Driver walking away once released shows the rest of the car held up.

The actual sight of a trapped driver in a flaming car brought back horrible images of accidents in the 60s and 70s so thank you Callum and the two spectators.

The marks on Cameron Jackson's engine cover and roll hoop support (tyre rubber I think) suggest he was extremely lucky as well, given that he went on to win the re-run.

For anyone interested in an assessment of the incident there is a larger sequence to be found on the Getty Images site.

Love the retro Stock Cars - is there a series for them ? What was the light blue saloon , number 91 , just after the Stock Cars ?

I notice the Maxi 1000 decal on the side - maybe it's a Nissan/Datsun Sunny ?

Quick , crisp sounding , competitive and well driven . Oddly enough, the first car I ever saw at Cadwell , in April 1975, was a very rorty Datsun Cherry .

I was wondering what race it could fit in at an HSCC meeting but I see it raced in 70's Road Sports Invitation class . The 'retro Stock Cars' appear to be from the F1 Heritage Stock Car series .

Iíve seen the ĎMaxi 1000sí in Europe and there are some very nice cars. There is also a 1300cc series in Spain / Portugal (I think) which has some interesting entries. The preparer that looks after the cars I take to PA meetings built a beautiful little Datsun for a customer over there. Very nice.....

The smaller engined cars are well catered for in Europe in my experience. Unfortunately here we tend to cater for multi class series with the current trend being to keep increasing the capacity limits of the smaller class making the 1000 and 1300's uncompetitive. Perhaps there's a market for a series similar to the now renamed Maxi 1300 series and the one you mention in Portugal.
