A1-Ring?

I don't know if this is the correct forum to be putting this thread but here goes anyway

I was wondering if anyone has heard any recent news or stories about the A1-ring. Some sources say that work has begun renovating it and some say that it hasn't. The sources that say it has state that the track will be ready for competition in 2010 and the latest news stories I could find dated back to 2008. So if the 2010 date is true then it should be nearing completion so I thought there may have been some news on that. So if at all possible, does anyone have any news about the situation of the circuit?

Plus the only images I came up with of the circuit where these:

http://i446.photobucket.com/albums/q...an/host/a2.jpg

Plus if it is the wrong forum then could the mods please move it. Thanks

From Wikipedia...

In April 2008 the current owners of the track, Red Bull, were to restore the track as a racing venue and DTM chiefs were considering to return there for a race in 2009. But in July 2008, the DTM organizers have decided not to include Österreichring into the 2009 program, although plans for the revival of the track are still under discussion.

In October 2008, the track owner Dietrich Mateschitz has ruled out any chance for the track to host a MotoGP or a Formula One Grand Prix in the future, and it will only be used for DTM races. The rebuilt track will be finished by the end of 2010.

Was always a fan of this track. Never quite saw why it got so much criticism (apart from the obvious..).

Not being as good as its predecescor would be a good reason. That still is better than most other Tilke creations.

Yeh, that being the 'obvious' reason

I just wish with these old, excellent tracks they could just stick a load of run off on them and continue to use them. It's such a shame. I'd love to see these old tracks being used in a modern age! The Nordschliefe would still be such a 'gimmick' in itself. F1 would have its night race, its twilight race, and its long distance race.

Here's hoping that they widen the start-finish straight. It has been too narrow even back in the 80s.

A1 ring wasn't as good as its predecescor, but it was still pretty good. It still had nice elevation and some sweeping corners, just a few too many tight ones
