wick should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Hands up everyone who thinks Governments should be involved in running race car meetings? I know they are putting the money forward, but its not really their area of expertise.

The Qld Govt is currently trying to sell off its assets due to the GFC and has to consider if it wants to spend money on motor racing events - choices are:-

Townsville - just started and is flavour of the month. Tick that box
QR - looking for govt support to upgrade the track/facilities to satisfy TC's requirements (weren't they classified as a provisional round for 2010)
Surfers - at the crossroads.

I can't see money going to everyone of these - irony is that the $ spend on Surfers for 1 year would cover off on everything that is required at QR - but that option probably doesn't bring as much money into the state, which would be what they are trying to achieve in spending the money in the first place.

I don't think government should have any role in promoting and running motor racing events or any other sporting events for that matter. A gaggle of government bureaucrats is never going to be as effective as a specialty business.

Now if the government wants to contribute in the form of sponsorship due to the fact they skim off of revenues with GST/VAT/sales tax from the inflow of money from an event, OK fine.

The whole point about the Surfers Paradise event is that it isn't a race meeting as such, more a tourist promotion involving race cars.

Numbers said to be down by about 14000 so far..not bad for a near disaster!

Interesting that the dodgy olympians energy drink and A1GP logos are plastered all over the Officials uniforms...obviously too late and too expensive to change!
