The other thing that is radically different is the technical challenge and therefore cost involved.

Way to turn a non statement into a whole article.

The Altima could race on, but if my auntie had balls she could be my uncle.

I can't see any appetite in Nissan to keep funding this but I am happy to be surprised.

No podiums last year, and 2 wins aided by jungle juice doesn't justify the tens of millions of dollars.

This is the equivalent of Kia CEO Damien Meredith confirming the company is "open to the idea of racing".

Yep, wouldn't a BMW M5 Supercar(s) be a grand thing? I suspect DJRTP might choose the smaller, lighter "4 Series Gran Coupe" 5-door hatchback given recent precedent though.

Does BMW M5 best Falcon FPV GT in the game of "Ultimate Driving Machine" -- and a mere 3x the price for that German engineering!

Also a couple of years ago BMW confirmed discussions re Supercars with Roger.

/it would look good and it should be easy enough to get the twin-turbo V8 from the M6 GT3 to the required output under Gen 2.

Why would BMW even consider it? To be beaten by a rebadged Holden? Or an old Nissan?

Why would the No 15 seller of vehicles in Australia consider it. Unless they have a car they especially want to push.

Hows that marketing strategy going for Holden?

Yes, it's a concern. How can Supercars make their series more attractive, especially to prestige manufacturers (and KIA) who actually sell performance sedans!?

Such a shame, Supercars could not attract *and retain* prestige brands like Volvo, Mercedes-Benz, Infiniti and later BMW, Jaguar, Alfa Romeo etc to form the foundation of the series.

It would make more sense for the Kellys to race Infinitis given Infinti actually sell rear wheel drive performance.. How can Supercars *make sure* that the numbers stack? Would they consider paying for the homologation and sponsorship on behalf of prestige manufacturers as a loss leader to increase series prestige?

Both Audi and BMW definitely were and STILL appear to be interested in the idea of Australian motorsport

BMW is committed to DTM and GT3/GT4 so I can't see them building a bespoke car for Supercars.

Because those programs existed elsewhere in the world.

They weren't expected to foot the bill for development and homlogation, for maybe 2 cars at best.

FWIW, Audisport built roughly 40 A4 Super Tourer chassis, over 150 first gen R8 chassis, similar numbers again, for the second gen R8, and I'm not sure how many RS3 TCR cars they've built so far, but I'd say quite a lot, likewise the DTM cars.

BMW's GT3/4 customer base isn't as strong, but you'd be looking at maybe close to 1200 chassis between them, for ST, Group A, DTM and GT combined. Supercars involvement woud not be worth their time and effort.

Supercars really need to find a way to make their series more attractive to manufacturers, as they will very soon only have one manufacturer unless they can convince Nissan to stay...

Surely Porsche could be coerced from supply the safety car, to homologating a Porsche Panamera race rocket?

In this case, Supercars really need to do something to move away from having a bespoke set of regulations. It's becoming quite the problem.

BTCC cannot run NGTC forever, why not pitch a common NGTC plus regulation with rear drive only and 6-cylinder turbos up from the current four? The NGTC philosophy with a production bodyshell but common racing subframes is apparently more acceptable to manufacturers, than the abstract generic Supercars control spaceframe, if my perception is correct.

BTCC should be wise enough to know British TCR will fill the FWD touring car niche (with all those advantages of common programs like you say) and that BTCC might need to do something different, louder, brasher, more outrageous to remain relevant? Could be a great time to join forces! Both right hand drive markets too.

Yep, Supercars management REALLY need to pull their finger out to remain relevant in the motor racing landscape. It's a worry.

Im not sure they do. Maybe they just need to get approval to run a shape and let the teams run without manufacturer support

It would take a lot of work to get the parity, or BoP, right, but if new manufacturers is the main target for Supercars these days, why not just open the floodgates to more than just Gen2 cars?

Let BMW enter their DTM car. Nissan can enter their GT3 Nissan GTR etc etc...
Given the completely different regulations this is one of the very few times i'd be accepting of "parity adjustments" to even the different regs up too

Could make for some pretty interesting entrants...

This doesn't really look like changing any time soon though, particularly in Ford's case.
