Bit too big to replace the M3, surely? The next generation of BMW GT will presumably be the M4, unless BMW decide that the ACO have hacked them off once too often.

i'm sure the aco wouldn't hack them off if they decided to enter a proper sportscar.

The next M4 is rumoured to have a 4.0 litre V8 in it. Should be a contender.

I heard somewhere that BMW was considering a M6 GTS. I think the M6 will use the same V-10 as the M5.

if a daily use car has a 500 horse 5.0litre V10, the enduro version of this motor will be an absolute killer to all comers, it can possibly knock off audi from the throne.

How many ///M cars are their going to be know? And would someone mind explaining to me BMW's new naming system. I know whether the numbers are even or odd have to do with something about the car. I know the second two numbers (the 45 in 745i) generally have to do with engine size/type, but not what the 7 means.

the first number in the naming is for the Series of the car, or body style, that is 7 series are the large sedan/limosine type, the 5 series is smaller saloon but sporty in general, the 6 series has been AFAIK the coupe bodies of 5 series drivetrains, the 3 series is the smaller compact series of cars, the 1 series to come out is the supercompact urban car (not to be confused with the might M1 which wasa flashy coupe) and 8 series is the now defunct modern M1 stype supercruiser coupe. and ofcourse 'M' is the special sport variant of whatever chassi they will base it off of. M3/M5 of course if they make a new M1 it will be a historical marketing disaster, as the old M1 was a supercar...
this is similar to mercedes-benz and other companies way of numbering like the C class, E class, Mclass, Gclass, S class, A class... |

The new policy at Munich is that coupes and sport models with have even numbers: hence the M4, based on the 3-Series platform, and the M6, based on the 5-Series platform. Likewise the Z4.

Fab, I agree with you, M3s, M4s are touring cars, even if powerfull touring cars. And M6 isn't much of a real GT either...

Certainly the M5 will not be racing in any ACO sanctioned series. Perhaps the M6 would qualify though. The general rules require a 2 door only.

M4 and M6 will probably be the basis for a GT. Lets face it they are only coupe versions of the regular cars.
