yep, it's the car being used for the eurocup, alps and i *think* nec series next year. it's the same chassis, and there's usually an upgrade every few years so it's not that unusual. in person it really does look almost exactly the same as the 2000 with the most recent bodykit. wonder if it'll make it easier to set up? it'll also comply to f3 crash test and safety regs.

i've added a few more photos that i took at barcelona. they ran it for the first time in public there.

*to reduce costs, we are making our teams damageable spares supply redundant by creating another bodykit for them to fork out on.

no, you're totally right. the last thing they should be doing is improving on something that has been around for a couple of seasons unchanged already. safety upgrades are a total waste of time too (that was sarcasm, btw).

the eurocup, nec and alps grids are all in absolute rude health. i'm not sure i understand the outrage...

No it's not. Renault Sport calls the new car "update kit" or something like that, but as the kit includes a new Tatuus build monocoque, it's pretty much a new car.

The carbon tub, roll hoop, nose cone and sidepods are new while wings, suspension and power train are carried over from Epsilon-Caparo.

If the teams can find the driver's to pay for it then fair enough.

But in the UK championship's case, the Epsilon car came at an already bad time and weakend the championship. If it hadn't already folded, i would suspect this would have tipped it over.

I'm sure the Tatuus car won't be delaminating as did the Caparo Quality of the parts and quality of the design were the main reason several Eurocup teams stopped and judging by the entry lists of both Eurocup & Alps, the interest is increasing! Sure, the car isn't cheap and it must be cheaper, but at least now there are new players gambling on the championships. In 2-3 years time may be things will change and there will be needed a big reduction in the parts price list.

my bad, sorry. somewhat brilliantly they haven't taken the time to provide any appropriate information whatsoever, anywhere, at any point.

i still don't see the problem. the grids are superb, and there's still no viable alternative for a sub-f3 level formula. they're replacing something that was crap. what *should* they have done at this point?

tbh i wasn't aware that the Epsilon was so universally derided.

I just think that changing the gear every few seasons in a single-make formula is just a licence to print money and sometimes not that sympathetic to bigger picture.

Upgrade

Renault have upgraded this car every 3 years so it's due now, they also needed to find a new manufacturer - ie Tatuus - to produce the "same" tub - tho hopefully better! In terms of FR2.0 losing popularity in the uk:- as well as the cost and new car issues, have to consider the quality of circuits, and race organisation in this matter. We used to lead the world in motorsport, but the world has moved on and the UK hasn't.

This is from Alps brochure:

A complete car costs 66 500 € + VAT and the upgrade kit is 28 000 € +VAT.
