How are Formula 1 Hubs manufactured? What is the best material for them?

Being the dynamics team leader in the University Formula Student team (AKA Southampton Racing), I am curious as to how Formula 1 hubs are manufactured?

The last 2 years I have been part of the team, and our 10inch hubs have been CNC milled. However, we are looking for advancements to be made, and weight reduction achieved (whilst maintaining strength of course).

I'm also interested as to what is the best material for Wheel hubs?
We are currently using aluminium as it is obviously v.lightweight.
I've heard plastics are being used nowadays too?

Thanks in advance.

I believe most of the F1 hubs / uprights are now laster-sintered titanium.......this literally allows any shape the be constructed and you are hardly limited to any manufacturing constraints.......the F1 roll-hoop structure is also made this way......check this link........be warned its uber-expensive.......for a formula student car dont forget you need to do a presentation that implies your actually on a budget , selling a car in a competitive environment........therefore I would consider a fabricated design which is both light and cost effective

I thought the uprights are from standard aluminium alloys now by regulations?
