driftwood has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
Ginetta G18 Formula Ford

Looking for info on the G18 Ginetta Formula ford cars
allegedly 7 built in 1969 based on the 1968 built G17 Imp engined chassis
4 built
G19 was to be 69 f3 car but it was abandon project

1 car was used in the TV series " The Brothers" circa 1974/5 and later had Imp motor fitted to it but it is now back as FFord spec car

So who can spill the beans on these little cars

oneofapair should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Probably your best starting point would be Trevor Pyman at Ginetta owners club. Seems like a nice fellow especially when talking Ginetta's. There are a few members who still own single seater Ginetta's and I beleive you may know one of them from your Lydden exploits. Mark Smith races in slicks and wings at times using Vauxhall Lotus and then "monoposto f3 car? He still has (I think) F/F Ginetta.I will contact Mark and put him in touch if you wish? Let me know. Ginetta ff 1600

I believe Burmudan Duke Soares ran a Ginetta ff in the late 60s early 70s from his Norfolk base. Peter Denty might have info.

According to my research the following have driven G18s

1969
Richards Robarts - Cadwell & Silverstone / Bruce Giddy (also had a G12) - Lydden
Clark Sturgess - Brands
Chris Meek?
1970
Alex Durant - a yellow Ennerdale car - Oulton,C.Combe & Lydden.
Maynard (Duke) Soares - Lydden
Rod Smith - Lydden, He says this was a red ex works car
1971
Alex Durant - Combe & Thruxton
Don Smith - Oulton
Phil Clacher - Oulton
Brian Holland - Oulton
1972
Adrian Reynard - Oulton
Don (DCL) Smith - Brands,R.O.C, & Oulton
Phil Clacher / John Mawson same car ? - Oulton & Combe
Brian Holland - Silverstone, Oulton & Mallory
Doug Wood - Brands (My car)
Phil Gazley reportedly a Milkman and also associated with Mid Beds Sport scars- supposed to be the ex works car.
1973
John C Mawson - Oulton
Brian Holland - Oulton
Doug Wood - Aintree
1974
John Forakis (Blue)
John Mawson (red & Yellow)
Brian Holland
Doug Wood
1975
Doug Wood
John Mawson with slicks at Brands
1976
John Dickson or Dickinson in a G18D
John Mawson in a G18X!
1977
David Davies - Mallory
Robin Bowden
Terry Kavanagh (Yellow with side radiator) - Combe & Brands
Chris Hague (Duletta) G18B
1982 - 1984
Steve Banks (presumed the Kavanagh car) - Oulton,Mallory & Snetterton
2001 -2002
Mark Smith - Lydden, Brands,Silverstone, Cadwell & Spa.

Of the above I would dearly like to know what happened to the Phil Gazley, Brian Holland and John Mawson cars, any help with additions or corrections(colours, names, photos or race programmes) however trivial would be much appreciated.

This rather homely G18 was advertised by a dealer in the north-west whose name I forget in the mid to late eighties, and someone must remember it! Mechanic was Steve Davey, but who drove it?

I ran a Ginetta G18b as my second FF1600 in my 2nd year. It is the car now being run by Mark Smith who I met at Lydden a few years ago. As an ex bike racer I knew little about the car and with hindsight it was a mistake as it was very difficult to drive. I hated the original looks and as a Surtees/ Hailwood fan ran it with a wide nose in the first year then created a swoopy shape for 1974. As I have said it was a real handful but I got results with it.In 1974 I was on the front row at Brands alongside the works cars of Roy Klomfass and Rick Morris. I was running with the fast guys but was an accident waiting to happen and did not win in it though got 2nds and thirds in decent events. I actually raced in overseas Zaandvort etc as I got start money and had a lot of fun. At that time I met Adrian Reynard who had also raced one before myself.Although not a very good car it was fun. Miki Dee drove it at a race in the Lydden championship in 74 after crashing his own car in practice and still says to this day it was undriveable HA HA. I also drove it as the camera car for two episodes of 'THE BROTHERS' a TV show screened in the 70s. We shot this at Oulton Park. Hope this may be of interest along with my pictures

Doug, your G18 has moved on (a couple of times) from Mark Smith. Here it is now: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kzVxiT5Ffyo
