Well what started out as a simple puzzle designed to give pleasure to some who enjoy a challenge, has become a history lesson, on automobile names and their derivation. I am delighted to see that a number of participants are beginning to realise that knowledge of past events is useful when faced with questions requiring somewhat labyrinthine searching to find an answer.

My mission is always to open up the minds of the masses, and liberate the brain from all restrictions.

But, this can only work if/when the participant has a brain in the first place...

Not knowing what a brain is, after all I'm a biker, still enjoy the good ol' stories about inventors. Even more whan its from EB. Watta storyteller! The invention tested rue Lepic, known here as a steepy sloping street, was more likely about the gearbox rather than the car itself. Shome shay Renault and friends had just been testing les petites femmes de Paris and some bars around Montmartre! Quite a hassle!

What do these three drivers have in common, something unique in WC history.

Luigi Fagioli, Luigi Musso, Tony Brooks, and what differentiates Brooks?

No idea on the answer but what a fabulous photo of Luigi Musso. He looks like my idea of drivers of yesterday.

Agreed they look great. Tazio Nuvolari was the perfect incarnation of those real heroes imo.

Of course, Nuvolari was impossible not to like. He had charm and guts. In terms of charisma at least he was the Valentino Rossi of his day

So you like historic teasers, eh? Then what connects these two images? They are representative, not specific to the answer.

Post 2025.
All three drivers won a race while not driving the car, Fagioli, and Musso both handed their car over to Fangio (he having retired his own car) who went on to win the race. Brooks who was suffering from burns handed his Vanwall over to Moss who went on to win the British Grand Prix. Thus Fagioli and Musso never won themselves, but shared the points with Fangio, while Brooks went on to win a number of GPs.

The point is that Fagioli and Musso both appear in a list of Grand Prix winners, but only by default, while Brooks had his own claim to fame..

Thanks for taking part.

Baub.

Fagioli is also unique in being the only 'credited' Championship GP winner to have been born in the 1800's.

Last edited by E.B; 9 Feb 2022 at 14:02. Reason: Addded the word credited due to his not actually taking the chequered flag in his win [/anorak]

He is the only driver named Fagioli to have shared a win with Fangio, by gum these statistics keep on coming.

With out checking I think he may also have been the winner of the slowest ever WC GP.

Not including the 2011 Canadian GP which thanks to a 2 hour red flag period, lasted over 4 hours and is credited with the longest time for a GP to have taken.

Also I think the 1951 Indianapolis race (part of the WC) took over 3 hours 57 minutes

The longest time taken for a Championship (non Indy) race not stopped for red flags etc was indeed as Bauble stated, Fangio/Fagioli at the 1951 French GP. (3h 22m 11.0 secs)

The slowest in terms of average speed was the slightly time quicker race won by Fangio at Monaco 1950 (3h 13m 18.7s @ 98.701 km/h,/ 63.33mph )

Post 2110;

The first race held at Silverstone was the 1948 British Grand Prix, in May the second was the Bentley Drivers Club meeting in August, thus the two pictures represent that fact. The BDC has been run at the circuit every year since. 2021 was the 73rd.Anniversary, the longest, unbroken, meeting a the circuit, and possibly in the UK.

Lesson over for today.

Congrats to RBS and EB who found the connection (with just a little help)
