Probably because they're in UAE. The weekend there is Friday & Saturday - Sunday is a working day.

Really, what loopholes are there? I thought red list was red list, no?

Certain jobs are exempt (although not sure any of the AsLMS ones would be). Whilst Red List is Red List, if you get creative with your flights you can arrive via another country which isn't a red list. This benefits those who have multiple passports as well.
I don't imagine the AsLMS community will be the ones really breaking quarantine, so probably a non-issue in this regard.

I'm sure those that can get out will. Some won't need to leave the country. Those that need to leave should be alright. So it shouldn't be too much of a problem

Isn’t denying or not saying you’ve been in a red list country in the last 10 days the thing that gets you a big punishment?

Yeah. That's where the multiple passport thing has been abused. There's a guy on my LinkedIn (he's an idiot) who came back from a red list country, via another country, using 2 passports so it was harder to trace. It seems like it worked and got him through customs. He has been caught as someone has reported him. He had a rant about people being needing to stay out of his business (as I said - idiot). I don't know what punishment he got/will get/etc.

Nobody that I am aware of is breaking quarantine - the issue is spending ten days out of a red-listed country and having multiple PCR tests while you are out - then self isolating and taking more PCR tests when finally in your own home.
The choice is whether you stay in HMP Hounslow Travelodge - or elsewhere - returning to UK after ten days out of a red-listed country - either way it is expensive and massively time consuming.
The fact that the UK Gov decision was taken while we were already in the UAE was a hammer blow to several teams and individuals.
I was talking to one industry friend today who, by the time he gets home, will have been away from his young family for 2 months, will have taken (and paid for) c.30 PCR tests whilst operating, at every point, in a 'COVID-safe' environment.
Yet he is treated in exactly the same manner as the four 'influencer' w***ers who were in the same airport restaurant as my 'bubble' group in Dubai yesterday, arriving maskless, insulting a staff member who challenged them and generally heaping scorn on those around them who were obeying the rules and trying to look after themselves and each other - and of course filming themselves and each other as they did so.
I have no issue with a policy so long as it is based on risk analysis, and that it is delivered in a manner where responsible people can plan to comply effectively.
This is not that at all, it is a populist tub thump designed to display to a political base that the UK Gov are taking border control seriously when that is something that they fundamentally have not done from the start.

Well said, Graham. I thought you did very well to keep a lid on your frustration during the race comms!

I think that was beautifully summed up Graham. At least you had a good race to keep your mind on in the meantime

My lad, who stayed on for a few days at the request of the team, is Turkey-bound for his enforced wait.... He's already being tested on an almost daily basis....

Any reason he was asked to be kept on? At least he is flying somewhere, hopefully this disruption doesn't last too long

He was doing some work for the team prior to packing up. Beyond that, I don't know. All he kept sending us were videos of cakes in a shop in Dubai!
