Call me old school. I dont disagree with Formula E but its not taken off yet here

Who mentioned Formula E as a support ? There was a claim that it would be the perfect replacement for the V8s as it would appeal to the basket weavers.
Personally I couldnt care less either way what the SA govt wastes money on.

The road car appearance of the bodyshells is a step in the right direction but lets keep the drivetrains simple for another 5 years and reassess.

With NASCAR planning to go hybrid as early as 2022 and commonalities between the engines, it could make sense for supercars to go a similar way - V8 engines but with hybrid boost effectively.

There is nothing more simple than a full electric drive train, a V8 is way more complex.

I made the statement to a few friends about 6 months ago that Covid19 will be used as the excuse to get a whole raft of stuff done or cancelled that would normally be politically difficult to achieve normally.
So far so good on that prediction on several fronts.

In what way vague? Seems clear to me. An opportunity to make changes that wouldn't otherwise be acceptable under the guise of 'it's Covid's fault'

Sounds like conspiracy theory jibber jabber to me. Covid quite literally changed the world, it's once in a generation event. Of course things are going to change.
Back on topic. Sleuth's podcast said it best. Adelaide was the only other event that competed with Bathurst as a spectacle and transcended being "just a race". It had high stakes and always delivered. Irreplaceable.

So why would the government cancel the race?

No government is supporting any event on the public purse because they care about it.

The events of today are evidence why it would be madness for any state government to commit to an event that requires a significant amount of interstate visitors to make it viable.

The events of today are evidence why some of the state premiers or head sherangs are completely and utterly out of control and power drunk and seemingly incapable of managing a drinking session in a beer manufacturing facility!!
