[VASC16R26R27] Castrol Gold Coast 600: 21-23 Oct
Its Indy Time...
The Party on the Gold Coast... Who will do well here? There are some really big shunts needing repair before this event... work to do for GRM, PRA, Nissan to name but a few... A long trip back to Melbourne/Albury for some, then back up the highway to Queensland.. a short turnaround.. Hard to see it being anything but an 888-fest... |

This is probably my favorite event on the calendar outside of the 1000.
The atmosphere is incredible. |

Years ago I would have agreed with you. Those races in the late 90s when the big names in Indycar were out here, the place was buzzing. These days without the overseas stars and cars, it's very different. I think the flat atmosphere now is also due to its proximity to Bathurst on the calendar. I mean who goes to watch any games AFTER the Grand Final? |

The old 'boobs & beer' selling point seems to have been glossed over in recent years too..

The event and circuit has lost its spark since it was cut in half

During the Indycar days I went. In regards to the current format, feedback from attendees and from what is on TV supports the 'reduction' in the events spark and general appeal.
Are you suggesting that the event is better than ever Peckstar? |

Only been as part of a team but the atmosphere was definitely the best of the season, clipsal the only other which came close. There's still a great party atmosphere even without Indy though for sure it's lost some spark since then. Anyway, fun circuit with challenges and always puts up a good race! Shame I'll miss it this year.

How contentious of an issue will the kerbs be this year?

In all honestly I just hope they can get someone on who can explain whatr the penalties will be for kerbs and other issues.
It appears rules are set out in drivers briefings and they are not explained to the viewer until its too late |

I just hope they devise a simple and consistent method of detirmining and penalising kerb strikes.

This event should be a single driver event like the other street races. Just have the Pirtek Street Champion instead of the Pirtek Enduro Champions.

300km is an easy one-driver race in modern times. The co-drivers do so little race laps I really don't see the point of having them there other than for "show". I even remember Tony Cochrane once calling for the 500km race to be a single-driver affair Quote:

If you're gonna have 4 Enduro rounds, there should be one or two additional sprint rounds added to the Championship, imo.

Of course drivers will be free to exceed track limits on other corners such as turn 7 in Adelaide without fear of penalty. |
