Neither of which really work at Bathurst as we know it.
The investment in temporary circuits over permanent facilities will haunt our sport for the next couple of years.

There won't be any spectators from Victoria.

And the Melbourne based teams haven't done a runner yet.

The problem is if they haven’t done a runner yet, and the 5 day lockdown extends further.

Think they'd have to. There's also the question of the pre-season testing that non-Vic teams have been able to do.

If the Vic lockdown only does go for 5 days then the teams can make the race meeting but whether or not they can test will depend on commitments / availability at Winton (although I expect that Mr Grech would give them priority).

They'll be doing all that under more time-pressure than the non-Vic teams but that won't stop the race meeting happening.

Ironically of course, they'll then need to fill out their permit applications to return home to Victoria.

That's all supposing that current lockdown is only 5 days - the "Directions" are structured and dated for two weeks, just in case apparently.

Why can't they test at Winton?

The exemption for professional sport is quite clear.

The teams, plus support personnel required for health and safety are permitted.

Teams should be able to leave Melb as essential workers, NSW hasn't closed the border.

My understanding is that anyone coming from Victoria has to isolate for 5 days.If that rule is extended past this Wednesday that means that anyone coming from Victoria to work at the meeting will have to be in NSW and isolating by this Saturday.
If that isolation period blows out to 14 days then they are already done.

They can't test at Winton as planned on Tuesday because Winton was closed on Friday, along with the rest of the state - the test being postponed until this coming Friday, but if the lockdown is extended, that may not be possible.

Not arguing with you but it would be great if you could provide a reference to the exemption for professional sport. For sure, some sports are able to keep playing (such as Tennis or AFLW) but I'm not sure that there are standing exemptions - more that specific arrangements have been made in the past. Whether those are in place for a 5-day lockdown isn't clear either way from what I've seen.

From the DHHS Circuit Breaker Guide

Entertainment and Leisure - Closed. Except professional athletes are defined as essential workers, venues hosting professional sporting competitions can open, with essential staff attending to ensure the safe running of the event. No spectators.

Thanks for that. It covers competitions, not testing (or training) but no doubt there'd be some freedom within the definition of "competition".

Either way, Winton isn't running during the 5 day lockdown and the test has been postponed till Friday. If the lockdown is extended, that could all blow out.

Should make it a horse racing test , no issues with them running. Or perhaps the Winton Open?

Why not go up a week earlier and have the test day at Bathurst.

Because it is a public road and they only have permission to open 5 times a year.

Winton group test is on this Friday, now that Vic lockdown lifted. So we are on like donkey kong for Bathurst (other lockdowns, border closures and the like permitting).

Testing today at Winton, if it is anything like testing at QR last week it might be a bit meaningless. Expect the fastest times might be set early on this very hot day.
