I had highlighted this earlier in the thread, and got the Motorcycles Only response, then.
Yes, FIA GT is the first meeting scheduled on The Arena. I shall be having a nose on Wednesday, at BGT testing. |

Not sure if this will work, but here's a picture from the pit wall... it looks so different with only half a bridge and no grandstands! oh and of course the big gravel trap. Will there be a new startline gantry though, or will all races start from the GP grid?

Will the great "Pedestrian Bridge" flag post be on the pit wall now, or has it gone for good?

Another great viewing spot turned into a Binocular fest all because a circuit decides to take the MotoGP shilling. |

WFM, I think you'll find you can just about make it out on the outside of the picture that the Stig has posted.

I have a load of pics from Silverstone BGT/F3 testing up on Flickr.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/sandfis...7623706747106/ More may come later. Some of my favourite spectator spots have gone. |

In one of your captions you say it's the price we pay for it being a GP circuit, I think the price is more because of being a "MotoGP" circuit. Donington was a "Binocularfest" circuit and now unfortunately Silverstone is going the same way. If spectators can't get a decent view of the action then they'll just start to stay away, why bother when you can see more of the cars on TV. It always amazes me how Bernie puts his trust in his friend Mr Tilke to build all these fancy circuits with oceans of gravel traps etc. Whilst at the same time Bernie is trying everything to get more Street circuits on to the calender. Yes folks, that's street circuits complete with Concrete Walls and minimal run-off areas, where's the logic in that? |

I am marshalling the HSCC on Sunday - I guess the first test for the Observers will be finding their post! Fay will have to give us all her mobile number so that we can 'phone in for directions when we get lost

it's a bit of a shame, but i'm pleased they a) haven't touched bridge and b) have almost finished the modifications in a timely manner. silverstone hasn't ever really been a great spectators track anyway, if you want to get close to f1 cars go to monaco

I honestly have no desire to go at all. I did take my son three years ago for quali but the cost plus the terrible view mean no more for me. F1 simply isn't a spectator sport anymore so i watch it on telly and spend my money at national and club meetings.
When I think back to the views I enjoyed at Silverstone and Brands in the seventies it makes me very nostalgic. |

I remember walking onto the tarmac to applaud Graham Hill's last race win in the BT34, at Abbey. A ditch, and the 'safety railing' was all there was between us, and the cars.
I do worry about what 'public' viewing is going to be like when all the fences go back up! |

I used to be there all weekend with my parents and my brother. In the evening after practice we'd wander through the pits watching the mechanics working. Fantastic. At least in those days Bernie was only in charge of one team and not the lot.

I see the GP circuit has been used for track days already http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2qnDNK-iRZU .
Ridiculous amount of tarmac/gravel all round and new pit wall looks weird with no garages! |
