Franchitti- Retired?
Just a question: Had I missed some news? As I had to read in a german internet-forum, Dario Franchitti is said to had announced his retirement from motorracing... Sorry, but this news had not reached my ear so far...

I'm pretty sure there's been no official announcement, but his wife has supposedly pressured him into retiring - whcih is ironic considering how he sufered the serious injury which put him out of mose of this season. Other rumours have linked him to a return to CART with Rocketsports, or even the DTM.

I was gonna post a similar thread asking if people thought he would be back next year or not?
Gotta say mr Herta has a done a great job in Dario's absence. I havent heard any news at all but it wouldnt surprise me if its the last we see of dario in the IRL. sad because he would?is a good addition to any field. |

Dario's speciality is road racing which is why IRl isn't really for him. Nearly all his wins came on road courses, except his victory at Rockingham! I'd love to see him come back to CART, Herta's done a sterling job and I feel he's earned his place with AGR.

Andretti still insists he has a contract for next year, and Franchitti hasn't ever said he wouldn't be next year with AGR......
He has been quoted before as saying he loved his time in the DTM and ITC in 1996....... |

I've also seen him hanging round the BTCC paddock recently. But I'd not read anymore into that than the rumours he might go to DTM.

His website has gone on hold! Obviously nothing too exciting going on for him right now!

I think DTM would be a better bet than the BTCC, but it would be a great boost to either series if his future career was based in touring cars! |

Don't forget Dario's cousin, Paul de Resta competes in F-Renault at the BTCC events.

Its sad, like they said above, he's a worthy addition to any racing series. It'd be nice too see him in CART, but where ever he goes it'll be good.

Franchitti is at the Phillip Island Moto GP today and said on TV that he will be back testing "the car" in the new year when he is fully recovered from his post motor bike accident surgery. He also said he will be at Surfers Paradise next weekend. Lets hope he does a CART deal.

ummm if he is to be back in the car in january you can rule out any chance of him being in CART. |

I agree with the above assessments that he did better and liked things better on road courses.
As for Herta, he's terrific on perminant road courses, but he's achieving some success in the IRL and it's nice to see that. |

Dario has been lucking around the paddock as Surfers. Could be simply catching up with friends and soaking up sun Queensland rays, however, to fly all this way, could possibly imply something more is going on...

I doubt it , he is just having a holiday i reckon , he was at the Bike GP last weekend and now in Surfers , he IS under contract and unless someone wants to buy it out Dario will be in the IRL next year.

I'd say if he doesn't return to CART next year, he'll either finish his racing career in the IRL or move over the tourers.
Still, there are the persistent rumours marcus (I know it is silly season however), which must have an ounce of truth in them. There's nothing stopping a driver and team coming to a mutually agreement to terminate a contract early, particularly if, as it seems, Franchitti's heart isn't in it. An unenthusiastic driver with his eyes elsewhere is the last thing a team wants or needs. What this space i guess... |
