Formula Palmer Audi

Does anyone agree that Rob Jenkinson is the moral victor of the Formula Palmer Audi Championship?

Whoever ends the season with most points is the deserving champion - that's the objective.

He's far too good to be doing FPA anyway but thats the reality of "racing".

One thing I noticed was a difference in the reports of his crash at Silversone. The Autosport report said the car broke, the official advertorial FPA report (in the same mag!) made it sound like he crashed of his own accord, hmmm.

Rob Jenkinson won 7 races and suffered a car failure at Silverstone, there was also confusion in race 1 at Spa that cost him the championship... Anyone that has been following FPA will know that Rob jenkinson is a far superior racer and a more deserved champion and yes, he is too good to be in FPA!

Fair enough - maybe he had a little bit of bad luck but that doesn't make him the moral champion in my book. Just a fast runner-up.

Agreed.

What's the point of having races which award points if you then try to argue someone else should be the champion?

I'm with K-B. There are 12 races to sort out who is the best driver. Jenkinson may have won more of them, but Kennard was more consistent...,

Mind you, I see that while Kennard had 10 poles to Jenkinson's, er, precisely none, Jenks had 10 podia to Ken's 9...,

The thing is that FPA does reward consistent drivers rather than winners. (Which personally I'm all in favour of.) Kennard only finished outside the points once (a DNF) to Jenks's twice, but then you get points right down to 19th place! And here's the rub - if Jenks had managed 17th at Monza instead of 20th, he would have been champion...

Errr...
Well, he deserves it - but at the end of the day, the best man won it. Jonathan Kennard.

I'm not sure what the advertorial said, or whether you think this might be something against Rob but, as the guy who wrote the Autosport report, I got the information that something broke on Rob's car from himself, as well as another, very reliable, source when I followed it up a day later to check this was still the case.

It may just be a bit of advertorial wording designed to make it not sound like the cars break. Truth is though that cars break and sometimes it's because the parts are naff, and sometimes because drivers hit each other. And if I remember rightly there may have been some contact between Kennard and Jenkinson at Stowe earlier in the race. Coincidence? Maybe.

I've always rated Rob as a driver, but I knew several days before Spa that the race was 9 laps, so how come the news didn't filter through to him or his team? Severe brain fade somewhere.

Jenkinson is another guy who deserves to go further than he has but hasn;t got the funding (same old story). He's only been able to compete this year by working as an instructor for Palmersport and a deal with Pinto.

Mattias, re Jenkinson's lack of pole positions: Rob is actually paid by Antony Pinto's dad to use half of his qualifying session to show Pinto the racing lines and give him a toe on the straights, he cannot just go for it.

I like Rob!
My best friend dragged him over to me for a picture in Silverstone, about 5 minutes after he'd crashed!
