Gutted
Another sunny Snetterton day, and good to catch up with several tenthers!
Sadly the Touring / Stars of 70s race, which was 'coming to me' according to a bystander (whatever that means!), finished abrubtly for me when after about 15 minutes the gear lever snapped off just above the ball. Was 6th at the time, and had closed right up on Mark Wright's Escort which was sliding about on it's own oil and looked a real handful. It was retired at the pit stop. When the lever broke it left me in neutral so pulled off onto inside at Coram well out of way. Rather than wait for tow at end of race a friend went to van and got some mole grips. With these clamped onto stub of lever got back to paddock through infield a lot sooner! Dan Cox was sharing Vince W's Capri and put it on pole, followed by Wrigley (Escort) and the Scragg XJC. Young's CSL was 4th, followed by Wright, Laki Christophorou (Escort) and me 0.2 seconds apart. Race was won by Wrigley after the Capri started to slow later in race- eventually finishing 3rd with gearbox problems behind the CSL. Simon D's Turner was going well- but he can tell his own story! |

Good to see you Mike; sorry about your race; I saw you get back to the paddock under your own steam eventually. Sorry to Simon Drabble, Iain Rowley and Jim Woodley who I tried but failed to catch up with. Agree with Mike; let's hear your account. Will post some pics up in due coures.
It was great to catch up with some other Ten-Tenthers too! |

Sorry for your troubles Mike - I'm new to the formula but I was quietly rooting for you after watching you test on Tuesday (my little boy loves the Escort - sorry if you found any sticky little handprints on it), so was wondering where you'd disappeared to come the end!
Anyway, thanks to all concerned for a great day out. |

In my disappointment last eve forgot to say what a super meeting it was- everyone- marshals, scrutineers, MSVR staff, safety car crew , Masters team all relaxed and seemingly happy to be there. Does make for a great day out even if you don't finish the race...... Thank you to you all. Will be on phone today for new CNC'd gearlever to replace the remains of period ZF one....... |

I dont know who they where but what a jolly good Clark of the Course and what a superb safety car driver . I am just amazed people so young can do such a good job .
My race , owner Mark stuck in Ireland , all going nicely gained a few places into the pit stop, pulling out something in front dropped all its oil in the pit exit and then at the start of the back straight car developed a slight missfire so coaxed it back to the pits and head gasket blown . Put car back on trailer drank lemonade went home . Lovely car, good weekend . Last edited by jerryk; 19 Apr 2010 at 07:26. Reason: spelling |

You should stand for Prime Minister Jerry, you have just gained a few vote's!
It was great to see so many 10thers,shame I was a little busy! JT,I was really pleased to see you 'back in circulation',doe's this mean we can all look forward to reading the best Historic Race Reports available again?I hope the answer to be 'YES'! Although Trackside, our view is a bit restricted Well done to all of the drivers, pretty incident free afternoon meant not a lot to do for one driver and his Observer, who did his usual super job, thanks again Chris. Commiserations to those who's afternoon was wrecked by mechanical gremlins, but "thats motor racing".[Pain in the *****,as it is!] Last edited by terence; 19 Apr 2010 at 08:14. |

May I also add that the safety car crew were not only talented, but handsome, witty, wise and elegantly dressed. (How many Brownie points does that get me?) Actually a super day, with great weather, just need more to come out and play.

Our day was like the curates egg...
The car was entered in Cloth Cap run by Pete Adams and his son Ben (who drove the first half very well - first time at Snett so qually was learning the circuit started 18th got it up to 8th did a 1.28 lap job well done for a 17 year old in his 5th race!) handed over to dad who sadly had a high speed trip across the grass and slipped them down the rankings. I was in the 70's race (as a favour from Masters for which I thank them) to try and get my 17 year old son his first signature. I did 3 laps of qually and then handed over to him to do the rest of qually as the poor chap had never sat in the car before! In the race the diff started to whine at the left hander after the bridge on the first lap and got worse (as did the amount of oil on the track from some other cars - I thought etiquette normally meant you pulled off the line if you were spilling your guts!!) I wanted my son to get some seat time so came in as soon as the window opened and handed over. Sadly it was more serious than I realized and as a legacy of the off in the Cloth Cap had broken something on the rear axle so we pulled him in - one very upset lad (understandably) |

I watched the Top Hat race as well and was (along with the speccies - yes there were a decent amount for a clubbie!) thoroughly entertained well done to Ben Shuckburgh and Ludo Lindsay for their third - Ben is only in his second season and podiums are starting to come his way with regularity! Also well done to Joe Twyman for looking like he was taking the chicane in his mini at full chat - it was great to watch (and maybe if you are reading this Joe you could explain to the chap who ultimately stopped the race as to how to do it - he spun there at least 3 times!)

Jerry - I will get you back for that remark....in the fullness of time - my memory's long and my vengence to total. Seriously, I know there was a fair few early season mechanical dramas but I think the weather left most people smiling, at least. Thanks to all the people from MSVR and Snetterton Circuit for making it such a well run and enjoyable meeting. Good to see all the usual 10/10ths suspects and especially to see John Turner again - look forward to seeing the photos and, although I know it's a lot of work, we hope to see your race reports return in the not to distant future . |

simples... Cloth Cap Ben and Pete Adams, 70's Simon and Alex Drabble (however I did spin twice on the exit of turn 2 on an oil slick that would get conservationists concerned!)

Funny how the election gets dragged into everything.
Anyway, back to the racing. I was very disappointed by lack of sympathy from my pit crew after letting them know why I had stopped. Suggestions that I could drive back to pits without lever and maybe even continue the race......... So to put record straight this is what I was left with! I know Coram is a bit barren but not quite desert like............. Point taken though. If I could have jammed it in 3rd could have finished the race as long as could get away after pitstop! |
