I can think of a lot worse things to do with that building than Andy's suggestion, surely those in the business can help persuade Donington to do that

Unfortunately MSVR are not interested, they have concentrated on the race track operations and the paddock businesses. And Kevin Wheatcroft would rather just take the lease/ rent fees and let others take business risk.

Strangely, perhaps, and harking back to your post about the Aeropark and its parking problem for open days (not at all helped by the Red Route designation and the seemingly endless work for the new road the bypasses Castle Donington - sort of. Maybe. If it is ever finished. .... I not that the parking are for the Old Museum and the OlD Circuit Offices now seems to be frequently occupied by various HGV and Plant devices. Some are related to motor sport - usually with a connection to BSB if my brief observations are accurate. Others are less clearly related to track activities or even the Ritchie Bros. auctions or the Aston Barclay auctions. I don't really think the buildings are especially good for possible sales activities. The Cafe and the retail outlets near the old Museum entrance never looked busy at any time I was there (although to be fair that is not really a definitive observation) and if it is split up for sharing by various businesses I'm not sure how that would work in the current format. As a museum ... it seems it didn't work either. Maybe as a base for a YouTube channel - something like Jay Leno's Garage? Recording videos under the EMA flight path might be challenging .... |

Windscreen calibration. You learn something new every day ...
https://www.autoglass.co.uk/glass-re...n-calibration/ Mrs. grantp has decided she want to change her car. One of the issues with the present one is that the wipers judder a lot making a horrible nose and I can't make it do away for any decent period of use. The screen has a lot of wiper blade related microscratches and I think that may be the main cause. Looking for info about polishing them out suggested it might not be a great way forward and I discovered that Autoglass have a fixed price for screen repair of £162 for a single chip. Which sounds like a lot to me. Anyway I spotted the page above as I was browsing around and it occurred to me that if one was looking to buy a used vehicle - say 5 years old - there could be many complexities of service an repair that would make if expensive to run compared to, say, an older vehicle that still had a good parts availability situation. However newer vehicles and their fancy features will surely be much more expensive to keep on the road. So the seemingly fairly typical 10 year life of expensive modern toys may well reduce to 5 or 6 years quite soon. No wonder the majority of people now decide to 'rent' their new cars on some sort of finance deal. As the fleet of ever more complicated cars coming off 4 year deals starts to grow and leaches into the used car market will we see are we about to see the piles of scrappers grow ever larger with younger and younger uneconomic to repair and run technology? I'm wondering how to persuade Mrs. grantp that a used something with the toys she seems to think she wants maybe a stupid way to spend money for the few miles she drives each year. (3.5k miles last MOT year., 2k per year for the 2 previous years. In total 75k recorded miles for a 2005 registered car. The sort of thing she is talking about probably does not exist before about 2015 (so on the cusp of being unmaintainable already) and may require around £15 k investment at today's prices. To me that does not make sense at all. This could get interesting. Probably not in a good way. |

I could bore for England on windscreen re-calibration. There's sensors embedded in them that cover the Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) radar for e.g. adaptive cruise control. They also require reference to the rear axle thrust angle so you need four wheel alignment at the same time.
I do some web marketing work for a friend who runs a wheel alignment equipment sales company, and one of their challenges is introducing ADAS to workshops. www.absolutealignment.co.uk if you're interested. Sent from my SM-G950F using Tapatalk |

Ah!. That explains the picture of wheel alignment stuff that accompanied the Autowindscreens page. Good grief. All of that to sit in queue that sometimes moves and allows progress with ones journey objectives? The world's gone mad. |

Gone are the days of fitting a new screen at home with a bit of string and liquid soap!

I'm of a mind to see if I can work out that specs of the new JLR Defender with reference to the 'systems' it has installed.
What might be the potential for this new 'rugged' automotive device to leave one abandoned somewhere in remote region because some sensors seems to disagree with each other after a particularly tricky but not life-threatening passage through a river or section of sandy desert? Or a nasty main road crossing somewhere in Surbiton? |

You can do 'fly alongside a Spitfire' experiences from Biggin Hill and Headcorn (although if it was a modern plane alongside it's probably the Biggin one - Headcorn use a de Havilland Devon). If you've got a bit more cash you can do 'fly in a Spitfire' as there are 2 seaters around as well. The Biggin Spitfire comes over work 3 or 4 times a day when it's operating and the Headcorn based one comes over home - not bad! As you say the sound is very distinctive (and glorious), one of the sounds of an English summer.

That sounds like an experience. Of course it depends who has the money and opportunity. But I bet it’s worth it. Good luck to anyone who has a go

It's about £2500 for a 20 minute dash to the Battle Of Britain memorial at Capel-Le-Ferne, along the white cliffs and back (in the Spitfire). It's about £350 for the 'fly alongside' version. It's a stack of cash but what an experience it would be - real dream come true stuff. I took the attached photo on Sunday at Headcorn

I'm not surprised, Brands is a good place for a crowd whatever is going on, especially the racing

There are a couple based at Beighton airfield near Selby, about 10 miles away from me. They are often tooling around on a summer afternoon/evening. A wonderfull sound. I think the Lancasters and Halifaxes used the same engine (only four of them). |

A friend (who lives in the area) was given a flight in the 2 seater for a ‘significant birthday’. As he had held a PPL (though lapsed) he was allowed to take the controls for a bit, and fly over his house.
As said above, if money was no object he’d do it again...... |

Wasn't a de-tuned version of the Merlin also used to power tanks? (I seem to remember this from the story of John Dodd's 'Merlin' powered Rolls Royce back in the 70's).
