BTCC Regulations
Just read in this weeks Autosport about the LPG Powered Honda touring car.
The article got me thinking because it said that to begin with the car would have to be started using petrol supplied from an external tank. In my opinion, adding fuel to the car, whether straight to the engine or to another onboard tank, via an external tank is classed as refuelling. This would require a re-write of the regulations for BTCC and maybe also the Blue Book. The car would have to be started using this tank on the grid, which is against Blue Book regulations,as adding fuel on the grid is not allowed, and what would happen if the car stalled on the grid at the start of the green flag lap, would the external fuel tank have to be brought out to the car? What are your thoughts? |

I think it means there is a seperate petrol tank within the car, not outside on the track or in the pit lane.

Quote from article "Civic may have to be started using petrol, which has a lower ignition point, but this would be achieved by using an external fuel tank"
I understand external to mean outside, as in, not carried inside the car. |

The car does have a standard petrol tank but I understand the team are planning to remove that as it's little more than excess ballast once on the track. At the minute if they need to move the car short distances it's easier to leave a small amount of petrol in the tank and use that.
