Holden re-allocates V8 Supercar funding

http://www.v8supercars.com.au/conten...ercar_funding/

Quote:
Holden Motorsport Manager, Simon McNamara, has denied that a re-evaluation of the allocation of money to V8 Supercar teams is a direct result of the economic downturn.
A recent media report stated that only the two Walkinshaw Performance teams along with Supercheap Auto Racing (SCAR) and Team BOC would receive direct funding from Holden.
Quote:
McNamara said Holden allowed teams – including Sprint Gas Racing (SGR), Garry Rogers Motorsport (GRM) and Rod Nash Racing (RNR) – to remove its signage in order to court more sponsors for the 2009 Championship.

So really this is no different to what Ford has done with its teams. so are we headed back to the days when there were 4-5 cars at the top and the rest had no chance.? at least in the last couple of years we had a few teams that were getting in the big teams face's

with a re design of the front grill with some thing like clear shield a team could use the front of the car for a major sponsor

This would be a good idea but wouldnt it block airflow? You would have to spray it on the grill i think

“We’ve changed some of our business operations based on the fact that we have reviewed teams against key performance indicators”, McNamara stated.

"That's why we've hitched our wagon to BJR's undoubted pedigree", he added.

Did he really say that?
I wonder what performance indicators hes referring to seem SGR was the leading holden at the last few bathursts which is the biggest race of the year

Im pretty sure you will find that airflow from the grill is marginal in the overall scheme of things. I recall cromley saying something along the lines of you could close the thing up and it wouldnt make a toss of difference. Just cast your mind back to the time of the Ef Falcon, it didnt have a grill and it went fine.

The air intake is in the front bar, the grille opening just gets in the way.

Off topic sorry, but didn't know where else to post it. I recall them being a sponsor some time ago on a V8SC. Tough times I suppose...
